Very disappointed with my Commander

Got it. That's what I thought...I just wanted to make sure I wasn't confusing anyone, or confusing myself! :D

Hearing stuff like this about Emerson really makes me never want to deal with them.

I cannot stand ernie from his ridiculous posts on here. "do you know how it feels to break your hand on someones face?" ect ect.

Im purchasing a new blade soon and would love a roadhouse but I just hear way to many bad things.
I hate the fact that every Emerson thread has some character inputting their pointless drivel. I have a Commander from 2007 and one from 2012. Both are have excellent fit and finish with great lock up.

No, I think you had it right. Typically people attribute an increasing percentage to the amount that the lockbar has traveled. For instance, a 20% lockup would describe a lockbar that travels 20% of the way across the tang to lock the knife, and a 70% lockup would be further across the tang.

Stating that the lockup is a diminishing percentage as the lock progresses is viewed as backwards by general usage. The percentage of lockup increases rather than decreases relative to the lockbar's position on the tang, or the lock's "age" so to speak.

It seems to me that Chounch has it reversed, where the percentage starts at 100 and diminishes as it progresses.
How does he ("Indiana Jone") have it 'right' but I have it wrong/backwards? We both stated less than 5%....?

Anyways, check these out..

I had a Super Roadhouse with a similar lockup. Didnt take long for it to move over to the point that the entire lockbar was under the blade tang (I worked the blade open and closed while lubing and cleaning with CLP). It was just a little break in time and now the knife is fine. Give it a little time to wear in and I think you wiill be pleasently surprized.

jstrange

Chounch, your Commander will wear-in similar to your 7. Repeated 'waveing' will accelerate the process and applying a Sharpie to the tang's lock face will solve the stickyness until the lock smooths out. As I am sure that you know, a Titanium to steel interface will result in some galling, which is quite normal. It is the galling which leaves a new lock sticky at times and will resolve itself through time.

No one suggests that your feelings about the Commander are wrong, because the situation is what it is, however on the plus side, you will have no problem in selling an Emerson, should you decide to do so.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the lock up on either of your knives. If you are unhappy with your Emersons, post them for sale and I will gladly take your BTS Commander.

I went back and found the thread you referred to.
I think you missed the entire point of what was said.
Good news is that there is one more Roadhouse on the market.

OP, a good habit to get into is to check your knife over before you start removing tags, etc.
Most reputable sellers are happy to give you a refund or replacement if you are not 100% happy with what they sold you.

I am new to Emerson and bought my first one a few weeks ago .. I am as picky as anyone about my knives. I Absouletly love my mini-15. That being said.. I have never seen any knife maker more controversial than Mr. Emerson.

I do understand it..I guess.

How can anyone watch the " Nutfancy video" and not want to have a beer with the man.?? I found him humble and genuine and his knives are the same. If there was ever a problem with one if his knives, do you think he would not make it right?

If he made junk they wouldn't sell! End of story.

I can honestly say " I have never enjoyed ANY knife as much as my Mini-15. I have had a lot of folders run thru my paws over the years. I have 2 more Emerson's incoming and I expect the same from feeling with those.

I can afford ( even with 4 boys in college) any knife I want.. At the end of the day, I think you get a hell of a knife with Emerson's .

I hope someday,I get to meet Mr. Emerson and Thank him for ending my search for the perfect folder for ME.

That BT Commander lockup is what I would want in a new knife. It will break in nicely especially if you do many Wave openings. It should wear in just fine if you play with it for awhile.

Exactly how I feel. Mine was just a tad further over than his and had a sticky lock. Knowing that the titanium will eventually wear out one day I was happy with what I got. The stickyness is completly gone and its smooth as butter now.

But 300 bucks? Ouch. A few more bucks and you could have had two emersons.

I just received a Mini Commander BT yesterday.. My lockup was 5% or less.. not good..I could easily grab the blade when open and close it, without touching the liner lock.

So...I took it apart, and marked the spot( sharpie) the lock should hit on the tang, touched it ever so slightly on my paper wheel.. It locks up at 10% now.. problem solved.. I am sure what I DID would be exactly what Emerson SHOULD have done at the factory.

I also cleaned, lubed, locktite the pivot and she is smooth..the knife was butter knife dull by the way.. I put a V grind on it and it is a laser.. Still gotta break it in..

Not anymore. Prices just went up again. I just saw the Horseman for $184. Was just listed as $144. A 28% hike in price at 3 seperate sites. $280 for the CQC-8. I'm going to be selling my NIB Emersons and Microtechs this year. I'll actually make some money on the sales selling them for less than what they listed but more than what I paid for them. Damn government raising taxes. It's sending prices through the roof. I wonder if things would be this bad if Hillary was in office instead of "Mr. Give Me all your CHANGE".

Where the heck are you getting those prices?? I just went to 4 different sites and the Commander is right at $190 on all of them.......
Hell, the CQC-8 is $259 at full price direct from Emerson.......

cetv, I'm seeing the higher price points too. What's the skinny on locating these lower prices? Some of us are apparently looking/shopping in the wrong places.
