Hi all,
I am from Singapore. I was intro to this forum from friends and had ordered a knife from one of the knife maker in this forum.
To cut it short. I had sent the money before the knife was made.
And was told by the maker that the knife was sent to me a month ago without any tracking number. I tried to contact that maker a few times but he did not giver any response. I am really very disappointed, not because of the money, but from the maker. How am i dare to order again??

Who was the maker?
When did he say he mailed the knife?
Did you buy from a thread here on Bladeforums?

Yup...

Sorry to hear of the ill experience:thumbdn: but, on the whole, this forum is FILLED with good-hearted people. :)

please provide more details. as for shipping, during Dec-Jan, shipping has been delayed considerably. the only shipping that is still fast is FEDEX (and the other courier companies). USPS takes an additional 1-2 weeks on top on the 1 week plus.

Who is the maker? did he tell you when he actually shipped it out? what method/service did he use? priority is somewhat still trackable if you have a shipping label (even if they say priority has no tracking no). express is definitely trackable. first class mail is sometimes trackable (you need a shipping label). if you don't know the service used, then how much did you pay for shipping (it's easy to figure out because express is min $30 no matter how small the folder is, priority is $14 flat rate, more if it's not flat rate and even more if you want additional tracking and insurance).

also, how much did you declare the value at? what did you declare it as? (note that sometime Singpost will make mistakes too, on several occasions I did not receive the delivery advice, but guesstimated the timing, and called Singpost and went down to ICA to check if my package was detained)

did you use paypal (there are avenues for dispute)?

FWIW, I used USPS (great in the CONUS) in a trade transaction from a fellow forumite a few years ago who was from The Netherlands. He received his Endura in 2 or 3 weeks; I received my Delica in 2 or 3 MONTHS. The lack of communication certainly gives me pause. I would NOT order again until this matter is cleared, IMHO. But, we need details…

He just email me to give another week, if not he is willing to refund me.
He sent to me by normal mail, i know the timing for the shipping to SG.
But without any tracking number, it is hard to find out if the item is in SG or not. Even if i ask Singpost, they just tell me there is no item sent to me at the moment.

Well, I would suggest you be patient and give the man a week. from a knifeknut standpoint, the knife is gorgeous and it looks like a steal at that price. from a buying/selling standpoint, there is nothing that even hints that this guy is out to screw you. There seems to almost always be some kind of delay when shipping OCONUS and I suspect this is the case here.
Hang in there, the knife is sharp looking and I bet you will not be disappointed.

It is not that knife i am talking abt. It is a custom knife i ordered from him.
I am pissed off because of not having a tracking number for me to trace.

Having purchased literally dozens of knives from the USA, many of which were custom orders, I can tell you that it is YOUR perogative to be specific about the shipping you require. You must insist UP FRONT that it be sent with trackable mail (USPS International Express is the best option). In my experience very few makers have a lot of experience with international mail and the way USPS has it set up can be very bewildering to the first timer. Believe me I have made it a hobby of mine to understand the way USPS works. ;)

On that note, do not give up hope yet. Mail can often be delayed for inexplicable reasons. Also, FWIW I find regular first class airmail to be the most cost effective and reliable way to ship internationally. I only use International Express if its a very expensive item. However, I cannot speak for your country's mail system.
