The shipping to Florida then the Paypal addy of Cali on the second go-round would have me worried.
It does not make sense at this point.

I hope you get this figured out.

If it isn't delivered the second time around, I would make sure I have the knife in hand and refund his money. If the Paypal payment has cleared I would transfer the funds out until it you can get it straightened out.

9-25-2008 - I get a paypal transfer for the second shipping, and this time, I email him the address to confirm, as his previous one was in Florida, and now he wants it shipped to California. Very Strange in my eyes. He send me this:

Thank you Dave,

Please wait until my next email with the right address in order to ship it. I should have it confirmed by tomorrow.

Thank you,

It is now 9-27-2008, and I have not heard back from this guy.

So, he didn't have the address confirmed and contact you on the 26th after he said "I should have it" by then, and here it is the morning of the 27th and you're posting in TGB&U???

Talk about jumping the gun.... What are you concerned about? You have his money, you still have his knife, you can send it as soon as he gives you the address to send it to and sends you the shipping charge -- what's the problem?

I have seen in other sale forums here, that they will only ship to a confirmed paypal address, and do not know why. I was concerned, not being a young computer guy, that just maybe he hacked into someone else's paypal account, and now wants the knife sent some where else. Can the paypal money he sent me be refuted and removed, if that is what he did? I hate to be suspicious, but this is so wierd, I was wondering if any one has had a similar experience, and what I can do to protect my interest here.

I had something sort of similar happen when i sold a back pack on flea-bay.

The whole thing was a bit fishy but basically the guy who bought it had a friend bid with his flea-bay account.
I got an e-mail from the guy who had "lost" the auction asking to send the pack to "this address" and then got e-mailes from the guy who did win the pack asking if i could take payment from the other guy

At that time I had no idea they were connected so needles to say I was a bit suspicious.

I was going to back out and just relist the item but the guy did send his cellphone and house number in the e-mail so I gave him a shout to see if I could get things straight.

It turned out he was in his car on the way home from work when the auction ended so had to get his friend to bid to make sure "he" won the auction.
After payment cleard I emptied my PP account and sent the pack with tracking/signed for mail to cover any potential scams as best I could.

It turnes out it was all genuine and I'v had 3 dealings with him since and all was good.

I would not worry yet.

I once dealt with a person that had a friend in the US. He would have it sent to the friend and then forwarded to him outside of the US. This was due to a lot of resistance to international shipping due to scammers.

I appreciate the fact that you are uncomfortable you have not been able to satisfy your end of the agreement. It speaks well of you.

Lots of possibilities here. The Paypal account could have been hacked.

From what the USPS tracking says it sounds like the address provided doesn't exist, or the person it was addressed to doesn't live there. If you had signature confirmation and no one was available to sign for it that would send it back also.

If it was me I wouldn't ship the knife until I could verify the identity of the buyer. Perhaps contacting Paypal might help, or not. If someones account got hacked refunding the money might not go to the rightful owner.

I have been scammed before and these guys will say anything to make themselves sound like a victim. They will also delay you perpetually. Personally I would want solid evidence that whoever the money belonged to was the person getting the knife. I think right now the ball is in your court and you have the power to do the right thing.

Or it could be that the dude moves a lot.....but doubtful.

A few months ago, I had two packages returned by USPS for "address unknown" and "undeliverable". Interesting since each went to a paypal 'confirmed' address.

I reprinted new labels to exactly the same addresses. This time the packages sailed right through. Consider re-sending the package to the same address.

Here is a continuation of the story - Thanks for listening.

Well at least he's maintaining contact with you. I am assuming that you have already received the funds and and taken it out of your Paypal account. If you have, well, you haven't lost anything. Just make sure you keep all correspondence between the buyer and yourself just in case. Still sounds kind of fishy though.

You have his money, you still have his knife, you can send it as soon as he gives you the address to send it to and sends you the shipping charge -

i think you're on the safe side... i, for instance, often ask to send knives to my friend's address, no probs so far.
ps: a-ha, read your last pot, looks like it cleared up..
