Hi Folks well its been a lone time since I did a WIP so I am a bit out of practice but I took a lot of pics and there are a few cool tricks to be seen in this WIP so bare with me as I try to get my head back in WIP Mode. if you have any questions about any thing you see just ask and Ill try and answer the best I can. this little knife is for a forum mate Mark S. A little bronze and damascus for the guard and spacers
lets get some slots milled
I like all the parts snug with just a bit of play
now to see where to cut the slot for the tang
that should be just about right
this takes time you do not want to get it hot and it needs to be straight

frist the top hole then the bottom

Now we can start getting things pined together
but first lets dry bed the handle
there that should work
now for a little blacksmithing while things dry
I scribed the shape of the ivory onto the damascus spacer and drilled two #52 holes in as close I dear go to the tang and still be in solid ivory when I pin the handle now with the damascus in place a little supper glue and slid the bronze spacer into place so it can be drilled

like this it all lines up fine
a little more SG slide the handle on so that both spacer are now glued onto the handle right where they need to be and drill the handle
now all this stuff pins together
with the guard off you can see things are lining up nicely
now drive the guard on and with a small broken bit of mirror hold it to the face of the guard and it will let you know if your guard is on stright
now some short pins to index the spacer to the handle a little SG and slide it up to the guard

Looking forward to this, Sir......love the use of the mirror. :)

Thanks dudley now with a make shift #52 drill set it up so you cant drill through you guard and drill

Hey David, did you broach the ivory between the drilled holes, I use Johnny Perry's broaches, just curious. Is that a flat grind or hollow. Just courious.
Gary

now scribe your spacer to the guard
also scribe your guard on
now it all fits together away from the knife

after you shape your guard scribe a line for the thickness your guard will be
now blend these lines
but do not remove the lines just yet

use the lines to sand things into place
now with some copper blocks so you do not scratch your bronze clamp and shape your guard using a torch and small hammer
like this

now scratch some lines onto your handle to se if dare cut stuff away
like about this much
now we need to index the butt cap into place so you will need a block like this with # 52 holes in it it should be at lest 1/2" thick SG it to your butt cap

like so
now use some NP to mark the center of your butt cap
make like so using your jig put you must flip it

thats a nice fit with lots pins no chance it will move with 5 pins
lets get back to that spacer and give it some love
now for a little filling
looking better

time to heat treat the spacer and butt cap
I like the salt pot for this no scale
while that stuff is tempering lets cut the clip I like this rig when my clip has a carve and i like to clean up the 60 grit with this green belt

now I take off the center line with this rig
add my stamp
lets stipple the spacer now
it more like a texture

I sanded and etched the hardware she is all glued up now

Thanks folks I hope you enjoyed it and you Mark Schilling for the order and the nice ivory to make this knife with and for telling me how to use photo bucket man that is cool

Great project. Beautiful Bowie.
Thanks for letting us watch over your shoulder.
I really enjoyed it.

She's .a beauty. Always something to learn from Mr. D. Lisch. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I am sure some makers picked up some fine pointers.
