Vest Pocket Gamblers Dagger

That is spectacular Bruce.. There is really nowhere to start the compliments. Every part of the package is just out of this world !!!

Steve

Bruce, this is just an amazingly beautiful piece with outstanding design features. Thanks for letting us see it. Bob

We're going to have to start calling you "Sir Bruce." Concept and execution on works like this deserve a knighthood. Where's the monarchy when we need one?

John

Most fixed blades miss out on what many folders engage us with: Gadget factor. Of course, Bruce's work almost always gives us both.

And then this one also has the strongest pointy factor built in. It's a tiny, tiny, bit deadly. The thought of a Gambler carrying this to dissuade sharks is warm and reassuring. :p

I'm pleased for you, Bruce.

Coop

a double edge somewhere in there that I am missing, or are we using arbitrary terms again?

Nice knife, is there historical examples of it? Where can I see them?

Best Regards,

That is EXCEPTIONALLY nice Bruce. You do some incredible work. Some of your knife/pistol creations are my favorite items in DDD books.

Pleasure seeing the dagger. I also think the clip is cool.

Peter

Which book ? I have to check that because I don't remember that I saw something from Bruce Bump in Dr Darom's books...

Book IV (the Great Collections) pages 128 and 129.

When I first looked at it ( w/o ) reading I saw a dagger with a money clip and a built in lighter....

I love you Steven. But arbitrary it's not.

from Wikipedia, as defined by the public:

A dagger is a typically double-edged blade used for stabbing or thrusting. They often fulfill the role of a secondary defense weapon in close combat. In most cases, a tang extends into the handle along the centreline of the blade.

Daggers may be roughly differentiated from knives on the basis that daggers are intended primarily for stabbing whereas knives are usually single-edged and intended mostly for cutting. However, many or perhaps most knives and daggers are usually very capable of either stabbing or cutting.
Emphasis mine. We are so caught up in our niche world that a little latitude is acceptable, and often a good thing.

This blade's primary function appears to me to be a stabbing tool. I also looked at the definition of 'dirk' and it was no closer.

Kind regards,

Coop

I'm with Coop on this one. Besides I don't care what it should be called...I call it beautiful;):thumbup:

Marcel

PS I love you too STeven;)

Thanks so much for the warm compliments gentlemen.

STeven forgive me, I rode the short bus to school.
This one may not have a catagory with this combination of blade and ring. There are plenty of ringed guard examples in the books but admittedly come with two edges.

You hardly rode the short bus to school, Bruce Bump!

Seems more like a dirk to me(based upon historical relics from Scotland and all, and you remember BladeCatcher) , but whatever, Schoolmaster Coop has spoken.:D Who said the PUBLIC gets to speak for us, Jim? They don't...until we get legislated out of doing what we do.

The idea of a single edged dagger is frankly, pretty weird...why even have definitions that we use at all. That's it.....EVERY knife is a Bowie Knife...pronounced Buoy Knife.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Beautiful work Bruce, I always said you had to have the patience of Jobe and again you've proved it. Does the handle turn into a derringer? ;)

Bill

I keep scrolling up and looking at it, again and again. I really like the nickel and its warm finish. The pocket clip is quite elegant. I also like the butt cap detail and the taper of the spine.

The design seems very timeless, yet I find the lines very striking and contemporary in their degree of refinement.
