VG10 vs LamCos vs Elmax - toughness

From what I gather, good edge retention, not that tough.
These steels should be tougher than CoS even when it's laminated with softer stainless. For that thickness (Fallknivens are pry bars with an edge) they should be damn near unbreakable. It's not the case. Wether it is the steel, HT or user error - it's to be debated.

Long story short, I'd still pick monosteel over it.

At this juncture, I would too.

I would have no problem with buying a NL series in vg10 or vg10w. It’s tough enough.

Been eying that Njord for a long time now..

All the Northern Lights series are beautiful blades and are workhorses too......I'd luv to see the Njord in the Cowry-X😜...

I dont like vg10,it tend to chip when I chopped the bamboo, and other steel wont have that performance

This weekend i had a more or less new F1 in lam vg10 out with me. I beat it thru lots of twisted and knotty firewood. Not optimal size of firewood for a f1 either with just its tip sticking out. I could see the blade bend, and it got stuck several times. Actually i was pretty sure that it took some damage after what i have to call abuse.

Came out still shaving sharp with absolutely no chipping or rolling.

Now im considering getting a f1 in cos and when it comes out, one in elmax, just so i can compare the three steels fair.

Lots of money for stupid shit though..

VG10, VG1 even SG2 "may" in some cases show chipping when used out of the box, One sharpening and it usually won't happen again.
That has been my own experience with these steels, Also chipped 4116.
Never chipped Aus6, Aus8, ATS-34, D2, S30V, R2.

Wonder why Fallkniven released legendary Idun in Lam.CoS steel (which is incredibly good knife and I LOVE it) but not in Elmer, yet.

Probably because Elmax has lower toughness? Or because then it'd be even more expensive.

It is very beautiful and without a doubt a good knife, but IMO the only thing legendary about it - is the price.
