Victorinox Explorer

All you can do is ask. :)

Actually, I'm sure he could make you a Woodsman with G-10, and a clip.

I have found the perfect SAKs to carry everyday. I just got a Swiss champ plus for only 29.00 and free shipping and I carry it in a sheath on my side. I also just got a One handed Trekker that I want to put a clip on but I am carrying it on a lanyard hooked to my belt loop and hanging in my pocket so to keep it up and down. Like I said though I would like to have a clip put on it. My Trekker has the serrations on it and although I dont like serrated blades, I really like this blade. The serrations doesnt bother me at all. Yes the SAK bug has bit me hard. I love them! I own the , Super Tinker, The Deluxe Super Tinker, Huntsman, Rucksack, Adventurer, The Swiss Champ Plus, One Handed Trekker, and Various other small swiss knives. Every time I say to myself, this is the Last one, and Every time I always find another Swiss treat for me to buy. I even gave one to my wife to carry in her purse and both of my daughters to have in there purses. When I gave them the knives they said they didnt want them but now they use them all the time. I bet they wont give them back. haha. SAKs are great IMO. I also like the Leathermans.

The Explorer was my first true SAK (previously I had an Aitor "clone"), I have it since my college days and it has been an useful companion in many times.

In work days I use to carry a Leatherman wave paired with a Victorinox electrician due to practical reasons, but for all around light tasks (both urban and on the countryside) the explorer has the almost perfect combination of tools.

Enjoy your explorer.

Not trying to get off topic, but based on my earlier comments, I thought I'd add...

If one does choose to put a photon (I like the Freedom Photons with the "covert" tip around the bulb) on their Explorer, a little mini-driver in the corkscrew of the Explorer can be extremely handy for popping off the back of a Freedom Photon to replace batteries, and to lift the old batteries out of the photon.

After what I went through the first time I tried to replace Photon batteries, I would just toss it and buy a new one.

I'm telling you, get yourself a Freedom Photon (like the Doug Ritter), and keep a SAK mini-driver handy and you'll not mind changing the batteries. Not to mention, they are too nice to throw away.:)

I agree, some of the photons are a real hassle to change batteries, but the FP isn't too bad. Just pop of the back, and lift the first battery out, the second will fall out.

DAMNIT! I've been bitten by the SAK Bug. I must have more!!!! I've been all over the local stores, Not many shops in town carry SAK. Which is very unfortuante because I can't do online orders where I can find any and all SAK's.

All suggestions for user-friendly equipment greatly appreciated.

That's why I recommended the mini-driver.:D

No seriously, I agree with you on the Photon II. It is a pain to get apart, and requires tools. I much prefer the "Freedom Photon" model which came out after the Photon III. The back of the case just pops off, no tools required. If you haven't you might want to give one a try. That said, I promise to quit beating a dead horse.

Did someone say Victorinox Explorer.;)

I want a black one now. I'm addicted. Dammit. Its all blade forums fault! The more discussion the more I drool and fantasize! ha ha

Now taking donations :-D

ALSO I had another question, I was outside trying to start a fire with the magnifying glass. The pine straw got pretty warm. But no fire, Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

I just got my first SAK recently and like Bonescraper it's an Explorer. I love it. When I picked it out I knew I would like it but not this much. And I have definitely been bitten by the bug too. I can already think of three other SAKs I want/need.

@Wildone39
$29.00 with free shipping for a Swiss champ? That is an amazing deal.

Only 3? :D
I can think of at least 5 you must have: Rambler, Executive, Cadet, Farmer, and an OHT. Then, of course, you can expand into more alox models, and the Rescuetool is excellent for the car...

Yes locust, I did get a great deal. Amazon is were I buy most of my SAKs. Thats were I got the OHT.

I was thinking Farmer, Swisschamp, and the new soldier. But I must admit that the Rambler, minichamp, and manager have also caught my eye. The rescue tool is also mighty nifty.

Hmmm...I really should start looking at their knife selection more often.

Amazon has amazing deals on SAKs from time to time, but the best everyday place for current and rare SAKs is Felinevet's at sosakonline.com. He is an excellent person to deal with, his prices are great, and the profits go to charity. Check him out, you will not be disappointed.

Probably the only thing you are doing wrong is trying to start a fire with a SAK magnifying glass :D . They are too small to concentrate much energy. If you insist on playing with fire this way, however, do it on a summer day with intense sunlight, using dark, paper, cloth or fuzz stick. White or light colored burnables reflect back too much light to get a good hot on.

Confession :o: every once in a while, I will try to start a fire using my Swisschamp magnifying glass, but so far, no joy, only wisps of smoke and pinhole burns (this can be fun, if your sunbathing pals are willing to take a joke :D ).

After 25 years of humiliating failure, I haven't given up yet. However, you might succeed. Other folks have claimed to have burned stuff with their SAK mags, and who am I to doubt their testimony?

Good luck :D .

Yeah that's the conclusion I came to. Was hoping it would have worked. Would have made the knife that much more awesome. They should start using a stronger magnifying glass.

I used to light my cigarets with the SAK magnifier -- summertime, clear skies. Worked in a second or two.

I'm no genius or anything but just a thought. If focusing the beam on one point caused a hole to be burnt through the 'stuff' rather than it catching fire, maybe try moving the beam around very slightly (say the area of a dime)? Might catch fire? *shrug* Just an idea =P

I recently bought my very first SAK a couple months ago and the Explorer (plus) was the one I went with. Very nice knife, but a weee bit big for my pocket EDC. May have to look into a belt sheath for it.
