Victorinox secret sewing needle holder?

Yesterday was my birthday and from my wonderful girlfriend I received a spyderco sharp maker, a couple of bushcraft books and a victorinox silver tech climber. I was examining my new stuff today, reading the books, making stuff sharp, etc when I noticed a little hole on the side of the knife where the corkscrew is. The silver tech models, for those who don't know, have clear plastic scales which let you see the liners of the knife. You can see where the toothpick and tweezers go into their little sheaths. The interesting thing was this little hole has a sheath as well. I know the swisscards come with a needle, so I tried sticking one in. It fit perfectly snug enough that it won't fall out), protrudes enough that you can pull it out, and in no way interferes with the opening and closing of the corkscrew. I checked my tinker and it too had the mystery hole. Anyone else aware of this?

Mystery hole in question (hard to see, sorry)

Sewing needle going in

Sewing needle snugly in place, corkscrew fully functional.

If this is common knowledge, I apologize. Having a sewing needle comes in handy for sewing, obviously, also taking links out of watch bands, cleaning gunk out of small places, ejecting SIM cards from iPhones and impromptu field first aid, in my experience. I thought is was cool at any rate and thought I would share.

I have a Vic Cybertool that came with a straight pin. I hadn't thought about it, but a sewing needle could be even more useful. I'll have to find one that's the right size.

Ahh it is known. I've had a few saks but don't use them much so I'm kind of a newbie to them, however since it's a gift from the missus I am adding it to the edc line up with the 581 barrage and the skeletool cx.

I was totally unaware of this feature until a few months ago and promptly slid a thick insect pin (for mounting butterflies and other insects) in the hole of my 1/2 decade old Spartan, one immediate use was for re-aiming a windshield washer nozzle. My older SAKs (I keep worn out ones as spares!) don't have that tiny hole.

Ah ha! Another good use for a pin/needle. The tinker lives in my edc pack, I'll have to make it a point to check the others to see if they have it. I got three or four different Vic's squirreled away somewhere. I have a wenger from my grandpa too, but I'm sure it doesn't have it.

I've got an older Chamipion that doesn't have a hole, but I know the newer models have it. Pretty neat feature and just one more extra feature from an already-feature-filled tool

My girlfriend thinks I'm a dork for getting so excited about a little hole in the knife, until she needs something fixed with one of my tools, then I'm Mr. Fixit haha.

I think most of them do have the needle slot, but to my knowledge, most of the knives don't actually include the needle.

Good to know, I got ridiculously excited when I found it haha. It was like finding the lost city of Atlantis, obviously it doesn't take a lot to make me happy :).

Small Tinker has the hole also. But I never knew it until I read your post. I don't have a needle to try, but I will have tomorrow.

I almost feel kind of stupid. I've had Victorinox knives for somewhere around 45 years and did not know this. Kind of exciting. Thanks. Mike

My Swiss Champ has a hole for a straight pin under the cork screw, and the pin is stainless steel. The diameter of the pin is 0.027". If you want to add a hole to your old knife to accommodate a standard straight pin, you need a # 70 wire gauge drill. Victorinox's Secrets have been uncovered.

Great idea! I have an older swiss champ, and it still has the original straight pin in there. The head of the pin fits perfectly behind the corkscrew so it can't fall out.
