Victorinox secret sewing needle holder?

Haha well I'm glad it helped some people out. The other responses made me smile, and I'm brainstorming a list of uses for needles and pins. An overall productive thread.

You'd think something on the packaging would mention it or at least draw attention to it. Good to know though, I foresee the next couple hours of my life being spent on the SAK wiki.

Good info. As far as I can tell, no pin hole on my regular carry SAK. Will have to look at some of the others I own. I mostly own 111mm SAKs.

I've got about 20+ SAKs, several with the regular pin and I don't know why it never occurred to me to put a sewing needle in some of them. One of the SAKs I EDC is my Stayglow Huntsman. I'll have to check if it has the pin hole and I'll probably add a sewing needle to it and keep the regular pin in my Swisscard which stays in my wallet. Thanks for the tip (no pun intended)!

...I noticed a little hole on the side of the knife
Sewing needle going in....Sewing needle snugly in place,
Having a sewing needle comes in handy for sewing...
hmmm. hole was designed for a pin

by virtue of having a flat pin head, which acts as a stop;
thus preventing complete entry into the scales.
seeing that a needle has no "head",
perhaps some thread

might prevent accidental fully entry into the scale's cavity;
besides allowing for easier withdrawal of the needle with a single pull.

I have around 7 Victorinox and all mine must be oldies, not one has the needle/straight pin receptical.hmmmmmmm

I've got an older Chamipion that doesn't have a hole, but I know the newer models have it.

I never thought to look, but it seems some SAK's have it and some don't. I have an old Spartan with a small extension for a key ring, but no pin hole; and a newer one with no ring thingy but *with* a pin-hole.

I like this thread :)

(now hunting for a pin of the right size)

The needle I stuck in is physically to long to completely slip into the hole, leaving the eye partially protruding, but that's still a great idea with thread, Girlymann

Ahh the wonders never cease with this wonderful little tool, eh powernoodle? A Needle/pin holder AND a blade, what a marvelous time we live in ;).

I think they started producing scales like that for the SwissChamp, and then in the interests of rationalising production ended up just fitting those scales to all their 91mm knives. They don't all come with a pin, but the hole is there if you have a needle or pin to put in it.

Some of my Huntsman have it, some don't. They are otherwise identical. I wonder if this is a recent addition.

My Swiss Champ has a hole for a straight pin under the cork screw, and the pin is stainless steel. The diameter of the pin is 0.027". If you want to add a hole to your old knife to accommodate a standard straight pin, you need a # 70 wire gauge drill. Victorinox's Secrets have been uncovered.

My Spartan does not have the pin hole but I would like to :)add one. Can I do this without damaging the scales?:rolleyes:

The hiker has it and all with the same scales as the Hiker. I keep the Victorinox straight pin on mine. I've also kept a needle in it in the past.

Wow, cool! Now to find the perfect needle/pin to stick in my Silver Tech Huntsman. Thanks for sharing!
