Victorinox vs. Leatherman (in terms of quality)

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to reply to this thread. I was provided with all the info I could ever need. Every time I post on Blade Forums I'm reminded what a great resource this website is, and how awesome it's users are. Very much appreciated!

Powernoodle's experience mirrors my own here. I EDC a SwissChamp and used to carry a Leatherman Sidekick. I loved the Sidekick because it's a great tool, but the SwissChamp offers more and is better made. The SwissChamp is on my belt as I type this, and I ended up giving the Sidekick to my brother in law.

One or the other might better fit your lifestyle, and that's fine, but in my opinion, these are two different animals. Swisschamp is a loaded Swiss Army Knife, the Sidekick a pliers based multitool. While the SAK has pliers (barely) in its tool mix, it is more a pocketable knife with extras, while the Leatherman is real pliers, plus. They can't really be compared anymore than a rifle and pistol. Both are firearms, but...

I tend to split SAK type knives out as a separate type of need. If you doing much of anything that requires strength, the pliers-based multi-tools win, even the small ones. I can imagine carrying a beastly SAK (more than three layers) in my pocket and I won't do it.
