VIDEO: CS 2010 Recon 1 Hard Use Test

I'm really liking my 2010 Recon 1. The G10 feels good in the hand, but I think it will shred my pocket so I'm going to smooth it down with some sandpaper. You guys are right about how your hand just sinks down into the handle real nice. Solid grip. The lock is pretty stiff and requires more pressure and travel than I am used to, but theres nothing wrong with that. And at around $60, its priced right.

Edit: 10 seconds with some 150 grit sandpaper, and the G10 is all smoothed out under the clip. After removing the dust, there is no visual difference. Highly recommended mod if you don't like shredding your pants pocket. Love it.

The videos are really good Jim. I like the format of the way you do the same jobs with each knife in a short concise testing method. Good job once more showing what the knives are all about. I sure like that "twack" of the Recon 1 you tested when you open it. :D

Those appeared to be some good whacks to the spine and in the overstrikes to me, probably even harder ones than you gave the Griptilian and the Manix when you tested those. It looked to me like that Recon went deeper into the wood making a bigger notch when you were doing the baton work also. Maybe the bigger blade helped there I guess. I gotta get me one of those new Recon 1 models now. :D

Thanks. :D

Yeah I beat on it pretty good.

The spring is even stiffer than the one on the Lawman, it really does make some noise when it locks up. :D

I was kinds surprised about the tip holding up. It looks rather thin. Good to hear it.

Wife and I went camping last year with some friends only to find we had NO knife at camp. Plenty of pre-cut/split firewood, but no friggin fixed blade, axe, etc. Just my leatherman Wave and an Emerson CQC-13 bowie. Long story short, I figured we'd go it with just those tools. The leatherman came out ok, but my CQC-13 was utterly thrashed after 3 days of similar tasks. Lock failure, cracked back pin, missing pieces of the blade, etc. I'd not recommend an Emerson or similar built knife for such tasks AT ALL.

As much as people have said for a long time they don't like Cold Steel marketing or Lynn Thompson's persona - while I was in the Marine Corps I saw pretty much every brand except Cold Steel break something at one point from hard use, even stupid use (whether necessary or not). They always give you good quality for the money and that is the most important thing.

Yes sir, you're absolutely right, sir.

I have three Cold Steel knives. Actually, I like their marketing campaigns. Very informative. They've spent a ton of money doing that. I appreciate that. The personality and other qualities of their president is not why I've bought some of their products.

I have the CS Mini-Lawman, the CS Recon 1 Clip point, and the CS Black Rhino. Each of these knives are well worth the money I spent on them, and the Black Rhino is simply an awesome knife. Not very pocketable, but awesome nonetheless. The CS Mini Lawman is great too.

Enough for now.

Thank you for telling us what happened when you were in the service. Most appreciated.

And thank you for serving.

Semper Fi!

Thank you also Folderguy. Considering to get a Recon 1 or American Lawman soon to add to the family, haven't held any recent model folding knives from them for a while. I like Rajah III blade profile but not sure how it would be to have in a pocket often with the new family life, tons of baby holding, up and down picking stuff up, change diapers, wrestle with oldest one.

After having a number of knives stolen from me from police and others, no more $100+ knives for me, not for a while at least.

Cool vid Jim she looks pretty tough for a clip point. at least the tip did'nt snap off. It also looks like your getting that tree you sit on whittled down to nothing. :D;)

Yeah Doug it's a tough knife.

I might have to move up before the next video. :D

I gotta get me one of those new Recon 1 models now.

I have no need for one - my American Lawman or my Swamp Rat Howling Rats will handle the same tasks without costing me an extra dime - but I sure want one.

Damnit, Ankerson! Now I gotta consider the Recon and the Voyager?! Man...... :) Seriously though, good vids, sir!:thumbup:
