Video Games

I always wished that some company like Activision or EA would make this kind of game into a full bore FPS.

A western themed FPS would be an interesting twist on the genre. At the very least, it would be something different than the same old war theme or futuristic disaster scenario that seems to be the norm. I don't know if I can recall a FPS without any handheld automatic weapons, though. That would definitely be a change of pace for that style of game.

BF 2 & 3 here. Just started getting back into a little shooting off the range. They're great for variety and length of play. BF3 forced me to upgrade my PC. My poor, twisted arm! :D

waiting for assassins creed 3. re-living the american revolution will be interesting.

I got into computers later than most; we got our first rig about 1999 and my very first game was Combat Flight Simulator. Got very heavily involved in flight-sims; went through the huge numbers of mods for CFS and then moved on to the excellent Sturmovik series.
Also a fair bit of other military sims including a couple of years of WWII online.
Have played an awful lot of Half-life...

Also spent a lot of time behind the wheel of various racing sims, primarily Grand Prix Legends which may be the best of all time, physics-wise.

Now, with no money for constant computer upgrades and little time, I've bought a PS3 and am playing Skyrim. I may be playing Skyrim for 10 years at the rate I'm going....
I have a copy of Red Dead Redemption and started it, but no time....It looks great.

I really usta be into Guild wars. I played that game to death, got my 50/50 HoM. But then decided to sell my account. Kinda got boring and sick of waiting for GW2.

I'm a Metal Gear Solid 4 fan. That game has an awesome knife, great guns, and fun gameplay. The story is a little over the top, but it has a strangely realistic view of the near future. Red Dead was outstanding and it has a really good knife as well.

I've been playing Max Payne lately, It's good.

I'm an old school gamer also. I've got one for ya, do any of you remember a system called the Turbo Grafx 16? and a CD game called Wanderers from Y's. Why that system never caught on will always be a mystery to me. I was also a huge fan of the old NES Blades of Steel and Baseball Stars.

I have been missing a good, realistic, over-the-sights shooter for a while. I played the BF mod, "Forgotten Hope" for several years. A free "realism" mod for the Battlefield series, it removed almost all the arcade features of the game and provided realistic uniforms, vehicles, and weapon effects.
As well, I was into WWII Online for a while. Likely the best armor simulator out there at the time. Good flight model too...
Likely the most-realistic shooter, but it's pay-to-play and a real time-sucker....

There is not much available. The "tactical" shooters have a high degree of realism but also require a great deal of planning and team coordination... Too much for my old skull.
Everything else I've found is obviously for the kiddies; strong arcade elements with lots of "leveling up" and "unlocking" better weapons and such.
In WWII online, there was none of that. As you gained experience and rank, you could have access to different weapons... That was pretty much in line with real military experience. You start as a rifleman. Other options later on included the machine gun and the submachine gun, but these were standard weapons with only a limited number available at each spawn point.
You had to attain the rank of sergeant before you could spawn an anti-tank gun or an anti-aircraft gun. I spent a lot of time poking 20mm shells at those pesky British ground-attack aircraft!

Best looking military shooter I've seen so far is ARMA II, but my rig won't run it. Guess I need to sell some more bikes....

Big into Skyrim right now! Usually into Gran Turismo and Resident Evil and Call of Duty.

I just finished up Assassins Creed 1 and 2. I'm playing Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion because I never played it and it was twelve bucks used. I'll get back into Modern Warfare 3 when the June map pack drops. I am very eagerly awaiting BioShock Infinite, which has been pushed back to February of next year. I've played through the first BioShock at least a half dozen times. Such a great story.

I used to be into FPS games a lot more, but for whatever reason kind of got away from that. Lately I've been playing Red Dead Redemption. It's a sandbox style game set towards the end of the wild west era.

I can't understand why the executives at EA and Activision haven't seen the potential in this.

I am loving the suggestions here. I buy about 3-4 games a year. I still am playing GT5 and BF3. For whatever reason BF3 is very hard for me to get the hang of. I love how different they got and their huge environs but i have a heck of a time aiming and making the repeated shots into people, even on the hardcore servers. I loved it on the computer with a mouse though (a few years ago.)

What wouldn't mesh? Playing something like Red Dead Redemption with the Frostbite engine would suck? Right...

Frostbite is only awesome because you have weapons and vehicles capable of leveling a city block. The big company's focus on multiplayer and I just don't believe the appeal is there.
