VIDEO: How to Forge a Parang from a Lawnmower Blade

As mentioned above, the weak point of the entire project is starting with a mystery steel. I got really lucky. It performed very well in the jungle. It held an edge pretty well despite being used as a machete. No edge rolling or chips.

Quite the understatement. That thing is a pure survival machine.

Felt good in the hand (a little front heavy). The temper was fine especially since I pried some wood apart with it. Our friend “Jorge” couldn’t put it down. The oak handle was perfect for that environment also.

The only real problem with it is that you don’t have any more to share or sell.

Good job with the sheath too.

Great video you put together there, I like that you used the soundtrack from Conan too.

Thanks! I'm glad you noticed the music. Sometimes I get grief for putting music behind my videos but I don't know. I like the music.

Reuben is being far too kind. It did pretty darn well but in the end it is just a machete made from a lawnmower blade. It is nothing fancy and the fit/finish is obviously terrible. The design satisfies the criteria I set forth when designing a machete but what works for me may not work for you.

I am pondering making a few more of these for trade blankets. I'm making one for Reuben for sure when I get a little free time. I've also got another design in mind after discussions with Reuben. I've got a lot on my plate right now but I'll get to it eventually.
