Video: I May Have Gone Too Far

Great video demo Rick!!

And for the people that don't know what's going on or why he made this video then shut up. There's no need for negativity. Who does that benefit? No one. We're all here to help each other learn and grow.

I think another point with the "micarta/g10/ grivory" debate is that micarta and g10 that are finished in a way so as to not cause blisters are 100% just as slippery as grivory when all are coated with oil/fat/blood-and any texturing that negates that slipperyness had better be reeeeeaaly well done or it will rip you up if you chop for a long time.
If it was me making the video I mighta made a Becker-gripped "stabber" out of mild steel...with no edges lol. Those weren't tentative stabs either, to have to rock a 9 point out. Cheers for going out on a limb with this one, Rick.

Thanks, Jim. Good idea about the stabber. Sadly, I don't have the resources, that you do, to pull that off. Lol. Wish I did, though. It would be an interesting show for Mythbusters. Lol

Someone's always got to find a way to tear things down. [emoji849]

If you think the test is invalid, I challenge you to do better and post it here. Sure much of this can be attributed to an individual grip, but the test is sound.

Rick I thought the test did exactly what you set out to prove. The Becker ergos, and grivory with a proper grip do work, period. Thanks.

Thanks, T! I really appreciate the support. I very seriously doubt this test will get recreated anytime soon.

Great video Rick. I had planned to do that test for my channel but you beat me to it.

I am glad you made it out safely, but I am honestly not surprised. Stock Becker handles are awesome. I love the Grivory (now Zytel) handles and leave them on all my Beckers. I have a few pairs of micarta that stay in a drawer. I won't get into my skills or try to have a measuring contest of any kind, But I have used my Beckers in many different situations where my grip on the handle may have been in question. The stock Becker handles have never failed me in freezing cold, blood, sweat, fish slime, or even when my hands were cold and tired and I SHOULDN'T have been using a knife.

Thanks for making this video and dealing with the ignorant.

Jeremy

Thanks, Jeremy! This video has been on the list for a long time. Sorry, I beat you. Lol. I'm glad you liked it, man. Your support, and input on this is valued highly.

Aside from what should be obvious, this video thread shows that so many people do not see what is obvious.

Should anyone really CARE that you didn't run toward the tree at top speed and do a parry, then full-force thrust into the tree?
No.
But, too many people live in their armchairs in front of their PCs. They talk of smaller caliber bullets being mosquitoes that no one is afraid of. They talk of carrying six knives and eight guns to be ready for the fight scene from their favorite Segal movie. When they go out in public, they carry a sword or an AK-47 because they CAN (and want to impress the cops with their knowledge of the Constitution and law when they get stopped and questioned for their stupidity). They spend hours prepping their knives to deploy in 1/100 of a second and shave hair, but never cut with it.
Etc.

I took the video for what it is: proof dispelling a myth that the knive will shoot out of your hand like a greased pig if there's anything that could be a lubricant on the scales.

I guarantee NO ONE who said this test was crap would be willing to take the place of that tree or log, even if you soaked your hand AND the knife handle in Amsoil synthetic 5W-30 for an hour before doing the test.

Some people get it.
Some people don't.

Thanks, Rob! And, right on!

Great video demo Rick!!

Thanks, Nix! I'm really glad you liked it, man. Another valued opinion. I'm so proud to have you guys' support for what I do. Amen. Negativity gets us nowhere fast.

You know those of us that know, know what you did and why. Those other people just don't know or don't have the ability to comprehend what you did and why. So effum!!

Goes back to being able to put together complex thought patterns and problem solving. They might understand what was going on in your video one day.

So dissirregardlessly, you did a great job on the video and I look forward to more from you.

Ethan said that it was Will Fennel, and Anthony Lombardo who did the first version of this test. They dipped the grip section into automatic transmission fluid, and then repeatedly stabbed the blade into a cedar tree, with no stiches needed. This was done in the Blackjack era of Beckers when the two aforementioned guys were selling Ethan's knives for Blackjack.

Haha, wow! I'm certainly not going to be trying this, but I'm sure it took some intestinal fortitude to trust that first stab into the log. I can tell you that the grivory scales on a BK15 never once gave me trouble when they're covered in 'yote guts and blood.

Great video CM! I was really scared for you on that first one haha.

Don't take this the wrong way but you would probably get more views and subs if the test when the other way :o

Great video Rick! Stressful indeed, made my stomach turn a bit, glad everything turned out okay! Thinking I will leave the grivory on my bk5 now. :)

Thanks, guys. I'm so overly glad you all are liking this video. So proud to do what I can for this community.

Great vid Rick! No idea why so much heat...your vids are always on point with no BS.

I mean, its a demo showing how the ergos, not scale texture, are set up for the grip, the scale texture(smooth) is intentional to eliminate hot spots.

I understand if one were unaware of the issue you're covering and didn't quite get it...but, I guess there's always one in the bunch.

If indeed it is aimed toward folks who are unaware, maybe a bit more discussion to that point could clear it up.

We all here know you and ur vids, and that ur a stand up guy. You don't even need to defend yourself. Good on ya tho for standing up and having pride in yourself and your craft.
I'll be on the lookout for more!

Great Vid as I took the time to watch with no prejudgment of test also sober
Last night watched with no volume and a little too much Yukon
Please accept my apologies for being a Big Asshole last night, as I appreciate the time that you and others take to run test and sharing of experiences
Also stabbing into a Quercus alba, a very hard thing to do as others may not know tree has very tight rings and very hard to penetrate and would have been ugly with a little more force, glad to see you made through with no injuries
Thanks Again for the Vid and my sincere apologies for my outlandish remarks

Love my 2 Beckers bk2 and bk14 only gripe is sheaths. Good video glad you still have your digits! :)

It's cool. I've squashed it.

Stabman says the stabs were stabby enough to count for the purposes of said stabbing test.

Have a stabtastic day. :)

I personally think you're nuttier than squirrel shit for even trying it, but it does get the point across.

Splendid video. As yourself, I've also been annoyed by repeated comments on slipperyness or whatever of the standard scales. Never, ever had a problem with them. I don't want Micarta on them, 'cause I'm pretty sure I would need gloves in order to not ruin my hands. Yes, I've got baby skin and have an office job as a daytime job :). So I'm glad I can trust the standard issue scales.

Thanks for making that blatantly obvious in your video and I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself. Thanks for sharing Rick.
