Video: Randall's Adventure and Training Jungle Course, May 2011

All the video was recorded on a flip. All the pics that I took were with a cannon S95. I have no attachment to either of those brands, I just took them because they were light weight and compact and there were waterproof housings available on the cheap. My usual photo setup is a Nikon SLR.

Great stuff buddy.....This is really professional quality. Makes me want to go on that trip more than ever!

The phone was stolen while you were in the bush? It's an inside job then, no? One of your guides took it?

Either that or the thing is out in the jungle still.

Very good vids, to the expedition leader I just want to say as a 20 year Vet in the Army, never leave your primary means of communication such as a sat phone behind in a tent. It could mean the differance between life and death in an emergency. I new a Soldier when I was in in the 10th MTN Div and he had his own personal sat phone on deployment and carried it everywhere. If I were in charge of a trip I would have at least two sat phones, one for the leader and one for the back up, and at least one PLB or two in a perfect world.

I've really enjoyed the videos so far. Just out of curiosity, if you're going anywhere near the jungle, is there some reason why it's better to build those shelters out of logs, ponchos and netting instead of carrying a bug-proof camping hammock? Seems like the hammock would be way easier and possibly more comfortable.

The course was supposed to mimic the situation you would be in if you were a downed pilot in the jungle. So our equipment list was pretty basic, more or less just stuff a downed pilot would have at his disposal.

I like the Conan - Wheel of pain music and how you timed it, in the movie where we first glimpse the adult Conan raise his head, here we have Jeff Randall carrying a log. Classic! Love all the movie references especially the Once Upon A Time in the West music.

Glad you picked up on it. That is EXACTLY what I intended. Patrick picked up on it too.

I see.

So what you're telling me is that if I ever fly over or travel through the jungle, stick a black bird warbonnet hammock and a decent sized poncho into my pack. Oh, and a PLB. Got it. :D

But seriously, I think it's really cool that you took that course and then are making the videos. It looks like quite the experience and I'm sure you enjoyed it immensely. Me, the very idea of the jungle gives me the willies. But if I could find something like this to do in the north woods (plus the time to do it), I think it would be a blast.

You should see if you can get on a trip to the boundary waters. Those are always fun.
