Any time I can help! This will be my first one...seems like alot of steel for such a low price. But Ssshhh, don't tell Uncle Bill!

Bruz: welcome, and you know you are required to post your initial reaction when you get it, then a field report after it's first good workout.

to make a decision on your next khuk, you should get a 12 in AK, just to relieve the stress. Like chewing gum when you quit smoking...sort of.

Hey Rusty, thanks for the greetings and yes I am aware of the rules. ;)

Just got home and guess what was leaning against my door...my new toy! Wow that was fast! What a brute this thing is, my Busses, Beckers and Swamp Rats feel like light fighters compared to this. I have a "tree" with 1 inch branches leaning over the driveway that has been driving me crazy...finally got a blade I am not afeaid to use on them. I assume by the bulk of this thing it is "unbreakable"? Anyone know what type of steel is used?

Oh, to further show my ignorance it came with two extra "knives", one with no edge...is there a function for these?

Time to do some choppin, my wife is so proud of me buying all these "garden tools".

Bruz, welcome to the cantina. The little blade with no edge is a sharpening steel and the other (karda) is a utility knife. It will take a razor edge as will your AK. Be careful, some of us have stories about not being careful. You will be surprised how fast that thing will tear up wood...feet...wrists...shins...etc. :D In my case, a stray brick on the other side of the tree. Blade went through the tree and shattered the brick. Nicked the blade a little but I used the sharpening steel and put the edge back. Cleaned up the nick later after the yard work.

They're carbon steel, made from old Mercedes truck leaf springs :)
One inch branches? The AK will sail right through them, no joke. Make sure you keep your legs out of the way when you chop, and use light strokes until you get a feel for it.
Welcome to the forum and enjoy your khukuri in good health! you'll be back for more :D

My first one is waiting at my Dad;s for me... ;) (he has a US PO box).
So to help me wait I ordered an 18" big brother Bura AK for it... ...
The wife will be pleased about my suddenly WANTING to get out there and clear brush/trees/2X4s and anything else that looks "chop-able"...

Don't feel bad. I live 132 miles out of Reno, but in-town mail here goes to Reno to be cancelled and shipped back ( something to do with OSHA making them shut down the cancellng machine locally because it had a belt drive theat was unsheilded is the story I get ) making it a 264 mile round trip.

So Monday morning I order a khuk. Tuesday afternoon it arrives. Wednesday I call for two more, Thursday they arrive. 3 khuks in 4 days. What's worse, unless I take the wife and kid when I go to the big city, I drop by to drool and fondle what's laying around Uncle Bill's - hey, he's a nice guy ( he is, but that's possibly secondary to checking out the latest shipment he's unpacked ).

Be real careful of the path thru what you want to cut and where your bady parts are located. You'll probably learn that what you THINK the 20" AK can do can be done with a 20" Sirupati. The 20" AK outcuts what you'd expect by quite a bit.

PS: That half inch spine is awesome, ain't it. I believe it's 5160 and Mercedes, then Volvo, then Japanese etc. , is preferred.
