Virgil "Gus" Grissom's Survival Knife

First of all, I'd like to apologize to Mr. Randall for making public a statement that should have been private. I'd also like to apologize for the tone of my reply. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit and a man of my advanced age should show a bit more maturity. It's not the first time I've stepped on my own dick and probably not the last.

However, my reaction to the statement was born of three decades spent in a military cockpit. I've buried quite a few colleagues and on four occasions I stood in a friend's living room to tell his family that their husband/father wouldn't be coming home again. The death of a pilot is a very hot button issue with me and Gus Grissom was personal hero of mine. A flawed hero, but a hero nonetheless. I let my feelings cloud my judgment when I typed my previous response.

However, I stand by my decision to sell the knives. Throwing them away would be a selfish waste, in my opinion. They are fine tools that will serve their new owner well. And while I probably won't own another, I don't think any less of ESEE products nor will I speak ill of them. They are well made and designed tools. Not that it matters, but I sold them for far less than I paid. Not sure how losing a few more dollars would strengthen my convictions any further. And I've never been one to cut off my nose to spite my face.

In closing, I'd also like to apologize to the OP for creating a train wreck of his thread. I found it very interesting and next time I'm in that area, I'll make a point to visit that park.

No hard feelings from us my friend.

Can't please everyone and we don't even begin to try. Opinions are what they are and we respect everyones.

Like I said before, I applude you for your convictions and thank you much for your service.

Very honorable of you, sir, I commend you. I respect your decision, though I may not agree with it. Deepest regards and respect.

I also would like to thank you for serving. I had the Honor of presenting the Flag to Next of Kin too many times during my own time in the US Army. I have lost team members and friends and understand how it can get to you sometimes.

No apology necessary. I appreciate your service and for you standing up for what you believe in. But just remember that many of us have lost people under dire circumstances. Some of us just choose to deal with it in a different manner than others. Onward!
