Virus popups unbearable

If it's a sitewide script that has to be turned off and should, good luck with that.

I hear some folks are waiting months on end for t-shirts, stickers, patches, membership upgrades...

I understand the wheels grind slow with so many requests, but...SMH.

As far as cross-platform testing... Who are we kidding? Lolllll. I used to do that as a job (cross-platform translation/compatibility) and I can assure you that is being done minimally here, if at all.

The tools have gotten better to minimize things like this, but no matter what, you will have some groups left out or having problems.

I don't think the focus should be so much as to where a registered user is redirected to so much as why are users being redirected in the first place? Some entity has paid for this privilege. These ads aren't just here for the heck of it. Someone paid to get their ad on this site. That's a given. It's why there's the little banner under the ad that says "Support Blade Forums".
It's quite possible that admin is unaware of what their sponsor is doing. Maybe that wasn't disclosed. But either way if one uses their phone to log on to BF redirection is now part of the Registered User xperience.

I just tested this. I logged out of my account on my PC and surfed around Bladeforums while not logged in. Saw the usual ads in the margins from Cabela's and Brownells, but nothing otherwise unusual. Hunting and firearms-related stuff.

Then I went to my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S6) and logged out. Probably within the first 2 minutes of browsing the site, I got the first full-site browser hijack from some web site named "presalemobi [dot] com" telling me I am randomly selected to win a $1000 gift card.

When I hit the back button, I don't go back to Bladeforums, but it backs me all the way out of the site to the Google home page (using Chrome browser ).

The little section at the bottom of the phone screen where the ads are displayed says "powered by vBadvanced CMPS v4.3.0".

I haven't been able to make it happen a second time. I do see the normal "in post" ads which seem legit, but the ones at the bottom of some screens are the ones that look a little fishy / not really related to knives/hunting/sporting goods.

...My Son is a Registered User here and he was online yesterday. He says he will be typing a reply and when he 'clicks' submit his screen changes and it's a spam site with
"Congratulations You are the 1000th Winner..."
And you can not 'backpage' out of it. He had to close down or Log Out and reopen. But he was using his Samsung Galaxy fone...

Thank you for saying this. I thought I was getting this reoccurring ad because of international news websites I was using for updates on an international matter. I also have a Samsung phone (Chrome Browser).

Personally, although there may be no legal liability, I do hold an institution accountable for their advertisers (particularly if the advertisements are scams or virus'), especially if the institution wants to be trusted with my info and $$. I am not berating BF, just stating my belief... and yes, I am still here, without a paid membership. I understand that there are expenses to running such a popular website, and some ways of selling ad space or pay-per-click ads do not give the website owner a choice on which ads are shown. I do not purchase items from websites that use these overly aggressive, fraudulent, or malicious advertisements on their page.... BF is both selling items, and selling memberships.

I haven't noticed popups with BF on my phone until recently with the "Congratulations" one. There are pop-up blockers on web browsers like FireFox, and extensions like NoScript which block many of the advertisements on my desktop. Maybe this is why us unpaid "registered users" might not notice it on a desktop browser. There are pop-up blockers and ad blockers for mobile browsers too. Maybe the OP can look into those extensions for his phone.

For now, I am at least glad to know that it is related to BF, as tracking down the source is usually the first part of addressing an issue.

Houston, we have a problem...

This isn't cool, at all. I have no problem supporting the site, but if there is some script in place that absolutely "punts you off of the site" if you're a "lowly registered user", that ain't cool at all.

It not only is punting me off the site, it's threatening me that my phone is damaged a certain percentage and infected with a number of viruses, and my only hope is to click and download their Antivirus. It's deceitful and nothing more than a strong arm tactic. Because if you do what it asks, your phone will be hijacked and maybe even have information stolen.

Here is an exact example of one I've got.

Maybe those of us that are getting these scam/malicious advertisements can post screen shots here to serve as a heads up to other registered users and as a reference (I would assume that a visible web address would be helpful). This might also help the website owner with a record that might allow him to look into this.

I believe on Samsung phones, to take a screenshot you must hold down the power button and home button at the same time.

For those that get the redirect, is there a particular subforum that you are on when the redirect happens?

It happens anywhere, at any time but oddly enough hasn't happened on the Android at all for a few hours.

In reading this thread I noticed it only appears to be happening to android phones. Just curious if any iPhone/iPad users are experiencing this.

When I log out and look around the site on the various sub-forums, using a PC (Windows 10), I see the ads, but no redirects. Using Chrome.
