All of these knives are brilliantly executed, and I have always loved John Doyle's flawless hunters. But Ben Breda just nailed this piece ... it is all you could want in an upscale hunter. Just impeccable!

If this is a tie... Wow.

Literally every single vote matters here. If you haven't already voted for your favorite, do it now! Voting ends tomorrow.

Adams knife is my favorite of the bunch but I went with Johns, as Adams looks more aggressive and campy! This isn't my favorite Doyle hunter but to me it fits the bill best. Personally, i'd love to own Adams... I've wanted one like that for a while with undecided handle material.

Tough decision, they all look beyond great. John's just speaks simplicity and perfection to me. Da Vinci's "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" comes to mind.

Can we make the future suggestion that both sides of the knives be shown, for finalists? A different and more complete perspective helps.

The Seward is the most beautiful knife on that page, IMO.

For me, though, it came down to the Doyle and the Breda - both classic examples of my idea of a hinting knife. Tough to separate those two - both clean and crisp with just a light touch of embellishment in the spacer. These knives are all business - quality tools first, art objects second. Went with the Doyle for that dark blade finish which appeals to me.

This was my thought process also. First I ogled over beauty. Then after thingking about my description of a hunter. It came down to form funtion and utilitarian. Not that a hunter cant look good because all of these knives selected for this poll have IT.

Wow, still such a close race!

Shane, I think you should have an exact time written down, down to the very minute at which you plan to close the poll. That way it will make it easier, as opposed to doing it at some approximate time of the day like (within 10 minutes) you plan to close it, due to Adam's and John's hunters being pretty much always tied or one vote ahead of eachother, where even just one minute could make all the difference.

Please forgive me if you already had this in mind, I was just imagining how it would be if I were the one deciding when to close it. ;)

Thanks again for the thread awesome idea and managing of this thread brother. :)

Paul, I set the poll for 3 days when I first started it. The time it closes is shown at the top of the page (I'm not sure if only I can see that).

Amazing. A tie between what in my opinion was the best pure hunter and the most eye popping hunter of the group.

So glad! And, yes, a perfect ending. I also think it's worth noting that the hunter competition garnered 147 votes compared to 118 for the Bowie contest. A real success for a first-time event. Much thanks to Shane for suggesting, initiating and coordinating it.

Haha! That's just fantastic! I'm honored and delighted with this outcome, though I would feel no shame whatsoever if I was chosen last in this this group of amazing makers!
A big, huge thank you to Shane for doing this thread, and for all the love, confidence and support from this amazing Blade family!
A big congratulations to John, the finalists, and all the awesome makers nominated for this contest!
A.

What an awesome outcome. Congratulations to John Doyle AND Adam DesRosiers on tying for first place. Both of these knives were exemplary, and stood out for different reasons.

I love the construction of Adam's knife, and the complicated Damascus pattern. On the other hand, John's knife was elegant, and is the perfect shape for a hunter.

We had over 100 knives nominated in the original thread, and whittled that down to 5. Thanks to everyone who participated, and made this a memorable first year for the best hunter competition.

A terrific start indeed to what will no doubt be a long forum tradition. Great job Shane! Congrats to the winners, finalists, nominees and all the participants.
