Vote For My Next Knife...770 or 941

The deed is done. I ordered a 943 Plain from NewGraham today.
It better come sharp enough to use as a razor!

Read this thread.. I compare a 940 to a 921 and 806D2 with factory edge cutting. The 943 is just a 940 with different handle. You won't be disappointed.

The 941BTPUR the folks at New Graham sent me had a mirror-finished edge. Your 943 should be just as sharp. Benchmade has some quality control issues, but they seem to baby the Osborne-designed knives.

I just picked up a brand new-in-box Benchmade 940 on Ebay for $80!! wahooooo!!
I have a question though, I've heard some mixed stories about the 154cm steel in this knife and was wondering if it's just people being overly anal and if it really is too soft a steel, how much would BM charge me to slap a D2 blade in it?
Also would they keep my old blade?

This review is what caused me to look for 94x's on ebay tonight guys
Thanks!!!!

I suspect you mean that the 943 is just a 940 with a different blade shape. Now, I'm no expert, but I was under the impression the shape of the handles were the same among the 94x series of knives.

I think the only diff is the blade shape & handle color.
940 & 941 being green of each blade type, 942/943 being black of each blade type.

Basically what Sticky said. I forgot the 943 was the clip point blade like the 941. I thought it was the reverse tanto like the 940. Anyway, I was referring to the all black handle instead of the green one that is on the 940/941.

The 941D2CF is my EDC these days. The overall package of size, shape, lock and blade material seem to come together in an awesome package to me. It's light, sharp, comfortable, tough and cool looking.

I had a 943 and I think you'll be happy with it. I sold it but still have a 941D2CF (EDC) and a 941BC1 (red handle, 154CM BC1 coated blade: a safe queen).

I gave my boss a 773BC1 for Xmas. In the 77x series I like the feel of the 773's aluminum handle better than the carbon fiber 770. In the 941/943 I really like the feel of the carbon fiber handles better than the aluminum. The 940 blade profile doesn't appeal to me, even if it is stronger.

These are my opinions.

Sticky,

It wouldn't hurt to try, although they would keep the original blade. Also, 154CM, as heat-treated by Benchmade, does very well in gentleman's folders such as the 940 and 941. My 941BTPUR is 154CM and it does everything I ask it to. The thing is, if a better steel is available, why not get it?

According to UPS tracking my BM943 saw most of the big towns in Virginia and then spent this evening lounging in the Philadelphia area (having dinner, I suppose).
Waiting.
Waiting......
