norcal, seeing you've been around only a few months, I realize you may not be aware that noss4's methods are controversial to some, in part because the way he throws around the word "testing." A lot of early criticism stemmed from the fact that his sample for each knife is exactly one (1). In addition, his methods weren't/aren't entirely consistent from knife to knife (though he's gotten somewhat better in this regard). Moreover, force applied isn't measured in the blows he imparts. People are also put off by the silly mask he wears, since he seems to hide in anonymity. At least Cliff Stamp put his face out there.

I've never been all that invested in the Cliff Stamp/noss4 school of beat it till it breaks. Many point out that such "testing" can be more damaging to companies than helpful to users. If it breaks, it's not worth owning, right? Still, I'll admit I watched with interest noss4's repeated attempts to break the FFBM.

Thread etiquette notwithstanding, I just wanted you to understand a little better where Rat was probably coming from with his reply. My guess is that it wasn't aimed directly at you, but moreso at noss4. At least at first... :p

Ive seen and read almost every thread that there has been about Noss and his tests. Personally I dont see what all the fuss is about. Noss has explained it many times before what his tests are about and why he does them. I realzie that 90% of the knife users out there will never even get close to the abuse that Noss lays down on the knives he tests. But we being Busse owners know that our knives are meant for abuse and watching his vids are fun. There are many HOGS on here who post vids all the time of general abuse and we all enjoy watching them. IMO Rat is just another one of those PHUCKTARDS who needs to bite their RAT tongue. If people dont like the tests dont watch them. Plain and simple.
 
Being a noob, he obviously is unaware of how much of an idiot noss was when he first popped on the forum. To be fair, he has toned down the stupid a bit since then.

I find nothing wrong with destructive testing.

Endless stupid threads about noss from his legions of sycophants, I can do without. If you think he should test a certain knife, give him one. Don't whine when people call it like it is.

Like I said, I don't put all my stock in such "tests," which are qualitative case studies at best. At least the data that Jerry and Co. have done in the past had quantifiable numbers associated with them (# of cuts through rope or # of degrees bent before returning to straight). But again, I admit I have watched some of noss4's stuff with interest. That said, I don't frequent the site all that often, however, and I could name maybe 4 knives he's "tested."

Fun? Sure. "Tests" in scientific sense. Not so much. noss4 has gotten his act together in terms of a more consistent procedure, I will admit. I think I'm still biased by some of the ways he came across when he started posting here at BFC, and I'm still not crazy about the mask. :D

Who will survive and what will be left of them? :p :p :p


Edit: I see Rat and I were posting about the same thing. noss4's early posts did reek of attention-grabbing. To his credit, he has curbed this tendency a lot in recent months.

Noss’s tests are what they are but I get grumpy about two guys that I tend to like taking shots at each other in this sub-forum. :confused: :confused: :confused:

Endless threads??? There are exactly 3 threads in the Busse archives pertaining to Noss's tests.

And this thread must not be too stupid if we have over 100 people voting in it. And my guess would be that every HOG except you that has logged on today has voted. Which would leave one to assume that there is interest in his tests. I am far from a Noss groupie...I just enjoy his vids and would like to see another Busse go through the tests.

Leaving immature replies like "Who cares" and calling people noobs is not the way I would expect a fellow Busseholic to act. I apologize if I came off a bit harsh in my replies but you know and I know that negative comments are looked down upon here. Save it for W&C.
 
Well, noss4 just went down a notch in my estimation, as he chose to PM me anonymously in response to this thread.

How can I change my skinny ASH to a BATAC:confused: I know you can't, but it would then be tied.

Like I said, he did thick last time...I say BATAC over .320 ASH!
But like I said in my previous post...it doesn't matter, I already know how tough Busse's are.


edit-just read above... If anyone has a problem with what one has to say in a thread then they should address it in the thread, not PM(JMHO)

Based on the recent PM I just received from noss4, one that attempts to defend his mask and anonymity, I think he confuses a single "review" on a membership-based bulletin board like Bladeforums with a so-called "test" on a site that attempts to draw traffic from all corners. Sure, I've seen plenty of anonymous reviews in a single post/thread here at BFC. But it seems to me that the stakes go up when you start your own website dedicated to destruction tests on a wide variety of knives, and you hype this site in various locales. Typically, folks who attempt to establish a national reputation as a reviewer/tester do so out in the public eye.

Again, my apologies norcal for upsetting the direction of the thread. I was just trying to give you a heads-up on the controversy that is noss4. It turned into more than I reckoned for as well.
 
ummm.... black tail is right if you dont care then just don't talk. he made this thread and he should have the respect on the thread. by the way thanks for making this poll black tail. Plus this is Busse, these knives arn't just cool becuse there extremly strong, but that where suposed to have something in common and that is that we all love INFI so in some way that makes us "family" (sorry kinda sounds corny :o:D)
