Here's a 10" w-2 chopper I just finished up. The hamon can drive you nuts. Had to refinish it 5 times. That was after the 3 times to HT and get it to show. Fixtures are 303ss and handle is black canvas micarta. Real user here. Even did an unintentional concrete floor test, no damage.

Thanks for looking

Thats beautiful, Chuck. I know how ya feel, I have a 1095 blade thats driving me over the wall myself. I could have made many more in the time I keep spending trying to get the hamon better on this thing. Nice job.

Oh Yeah !!  Nice work Chuck ! Austinitized 3 times ? 3 times quenched too ? Did you do it 3 times because the first 2 created some "issues" :) or because you were looking for some better hamon activity ? Whatever the case, it looks Grrrrrrrreat !! ( like "Tony" would say it ;) )

That is beautiful Chuck and the blade is outstanding in my book. It's nice and clean. I love it. Thanks for showing it.

Chuck, Thats a different looking blade for you. Glad you got the hamon to come out. Snowing here this morning. How I long for spring.......

Had to HT 3 time because I did not like the results from the prev 2. I did as Don Hansen recommended and it turned out pretty cool. Some of the previous hamon remained so it gave smae extra activity. I am exploring some different designs that have intrigued me in the past. This one was a customer request that morphed from a Seax. He decided the tip would be too fragile for a heavy user. It turned out nice if i say so myself. Thanks for all the great comments.

Scottie,

The Hamon actually is about 1/8th inch up from the edge. The convex grind makes it hard to see. That is also why I Hted 3X. The second and third sort of morphed together, I even soaked it for over 10mins. It was interesting to see. Did some testing on the edge and it performed well. If it does cause a problem It will be taken care of.

Scottie? The only person that calls me that is my mother, and then only when she wants something. When she's upset with me she calls me Scott Joseph. Most people call me Scott or Ickie, but you can call me Scottie if you want. I'll just call ya Mom! :p:D:eek:

Yeh i was called Chuckie by my Grandmother until my third child was born. Then I think she forgot who I was. I will just start beginning the threads with your mother is calling and you will know it is addressed to you;);). OK I guess I'll have to call ya Ickie. I've been called just about everything you can think, boy I opened it up on that one huh. Well take care and let me know if you want to try that turbocarver. I don't use it much anymore but it works great.

Wow Chuck,
you are not kidding about that hamon being wild! that is beautiful!

I just forged up an axe in 1095 ( I know it's not the right steel for a using axe, but it's what I've got,) now I gotta try to do a hamon :D

That Hamon of yours is inspirational!
