W2 Short sword - Now in the owner's hands.

^you just made Stu's day!

turned out fairly average...
I am thinking we need to put Lorien on a "Time Out".

Another beautiful project.
Just from a cosmetic point of view "It sure is pretty"
I really like the combo of the dark wood, dark fittings and the copper.

Thanks very much everyone. I'm pretty happy with this piece but much more so reading all the kind responses.

...The fittings look very nice... though it would be nice to see them in better lighting. I would not have known that the guard and spacer had texturing on them if you hadn't mentioned it. I'd also bet that the gidgee has a lot more detail in it than shows up in the photos. I snagged a couple of nice blocks from Mark... and if yours is anything like them, there's a lot more magic that's not showing in the photos.
...

Yup,, bad lighting. I need to sort out the photography angle a little more as being at the mercy of outside lighting doesn't always work out.

And you're right about the block. This one came from Mark (I think). I've had it so long waiting to use it as it seemed too special to use.

... Looks Foggish to me ...

Thanks. That's a compliment for sure and Don Fogg's work certainly is an inspiration.

The sheath is almost done.

I finished the sheath late last night. It took longer than I expected with designing and experimenting, making the copper washer, blueing the stud and cutting and gluing the individual strands of leather lace.

I put the "caning" on it to allude to the rattan wrap that is found on some Japanese sword sayas.
The stud is blued to match the guard and has a copper washer to match the knife's fittings and the stamp looks to me like the chrysanthemum symbol often used in Japanese decoration. Again trying to merge eastern touches on a western styled sheath.
My intention with the sheath was to give it a scabbard style and with the stud is to be worn tucked in the belt like a sword.

My wife thought I should show this detail as it's her favourite part of the knife. She likes how the curve blends into the habaki.

And here's a bit of the texture contrast in the guard.
