Hello BladeForums, I hope you are all having a great day!

It's been awhile since I've hosted one of these!

For nearly a year now I have been selling knife handle material on Instagram, specializing in vintage phenolics, natural and K&G stabilized woods, and cast materials like mammoth ivory, Fordite, Graffite, etc. It has been an extremely fun, and rewarding endeavor so far. I've met some really rad people, and have had the chance to check out some extremely cool materials. It has recently been really taking off. So much so that I decided to open a real online storefront a few months back. :D Right now I mainly just have vintage Micarta/phenolics posted as I'm sorting sold/available inventory from a show, but there will be a LOT more stuff coming soon.

To celebrate the opening of the website, I thought I would have a little giveaway for the awesome members of the Porch! I've been wanting to do this for some time now, but I've been waiting on what I thought was a cool enough release from Great Eastern Cutlery. :)

Being given away is a brand new, unused GEC Tidioute #86 Rivertown Jack in bocote, with tube and pin! This BEAUTY came from Mike knifeswapper knifeswapper of Collector Knives, one of the best in the business!

Now for the rules:

This giveaway is open to all NON-PAYING BladeForums members WITH AT LEAST 250 posts in the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blade subforum as of today (yes, I know that is a lot), as well as all PAID members WITH AT LEAST 100 posts in the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blade subforum.

To enter, just let us know what your all-time favorite material is for knife covers. That's it! It may be in your best interest to post a picture of a knife with the material too. ;)

The giveaway will be open until Friday 8/18, and then all names will be entered into a random name picker and a winner chosen on Monday.

Good luck!

Winner(s) Chosen!
Alright! We have a winner... Or I should say winners!

With a total of five entries, it will probably come as no surprise that the winner of the main giveaway is none other than sbh06 sbh06 ! Congrats, Jeremy! I cleared out my inbox awhile back, so if you shoot me your address again, I'll get this out asap! I'm also including a tin of Axe Wax for you to try. :D

Thanks for making BladeForums, and the Porch specifically, such a great place to hang out!

This giveaway had a little bonus to it! I wanted to try to give back a little something extra to the people that give the most to the forum. All paying members with over 2,500 posts who posted a picture in the thread (and non-paying members with over 10,000 posts) were entered into another giveaway. :D

This giveaway is for a custom re-cover of one of your knives, by the esteemed glennbad glennbad with your choice of my material, paid for by me.

And the winner is: Chief Chief !

I have several dozen choices of material. Shoot me a message when you select the knife you want re-covered, and we'll work it out.

Very very cool! What a neat give away and a great way to close out what has been a roller coast of a gec release!

Im partially biased, and always wanted it. Thru the skills of J jsdistin and the generosity of waynorth waynorth for gifting me the spare blades, sterling silver! and next to it is another favorite of mine, smooth white bone! Guess that would make micarta 4th in terms of handle preferences.

I'd like to enter on behalf of sbh06 sbh06 as we had a neat discussion today about 86s in between a terribly busy day at the clinic, it was nice to catch up in between patients. Good luck bud! I hope you win this for the home town memories!

I'm in! What a wonderful and generous giveway! Congratulations on the website and a successful business in a cutlery related field. I'm partial to all natural handle types, wood, classic jigging on bone, mammoth, horn, but the best for me is nice gnarly burnt stag. joeradza joeradza post above has some beautiful examples.

Thanks Fixall Fixall for the opportunity.

Not an entry for me, but thanks for hosting this GAW.

My favorite material is stag (shocker, right?)

I have already been looking over your site, and scheming on what I should pick up!

The pleasure was all mine in our conversation today. It was good to catch up and make a new friend on the forum, though this was certainly the furthest thing from my mind when I shared my desire to get one of these as a memory for my hometown. Three fantastic 86s, the sliver covers are particularly stunning.

Fantastic giveaway Brian and congrats on the rollout of your website. I may have to figure out how to recover knives so I can get some of your materials.

I love stag, jigged bone, and Delrin, but if I have to pick a favourite knife cover, it would have to be wood. Hard to narrow it down to one wood. I have lovely specimens in ebony, boxwood, olive wood, Desert Ironwood, rosewood, African Blackwood, beech, and I have a knife on order with Urunday, a native Argentinian wood. Love them all. But I guess my Desert Ironwood might be the best looking to me.

Congrats on the website - best wishes going forward!

Very generous GAW, thanks for the chance.

So many handle materials. I like Micarta. And some synthetics. Depends on the materials combo on those. Same with Bone, can be smooth or jigged or sawcut, just depends on the knife.

Wood is where I have a more definite taste. If I had to choose one, it would be Desert Ironwood.

Best of luck to everyone who enters. :)

Congrats on the site! I don’t meet the qualifications, so this isn’t an entry but I’d love to participate in the conversation regardless🙂

My favorite material is this micarta I made out of some blue jeans as a handle on a knife I gave my dad for his birthday. (Any chance to show it off… I know 🤣)

Looks great. Well done website. There's some redwood burl that caught my eye. 😁

Bone is attractive in it's many forms, but my favorite is just really nice pieces of tree. Here are a few photos of some that I had readily available.

Thank you for the generous giveaway.

Congrats on the store, Fixall, and a big thanks for putting on this GAW!

Since you asked, I like stag and bone for fancier fare, and am getting more and more into micartas for harder working knives….

BUT there’s just something about good ol’ wood, particularly smooth, dark ebony, that I consider to be my favorite traditional cover material.

Pic of my usual trad carry, Bunny #154.(partly because all my others are currently packed away during ongoing home renovations).
