Hi All,

Just a question for you. I listed a knife for sale and had someone say "I'll take it" but then no response to my PM's. How long do I wait for a response and payment? It has only been a day so far but I am curious. Every knife I've bought from someone I have paid for promptly when they sent me their info. Maybe something unforeseen happened so they cannot get in touch yet? I'm just wondering what's a good time period to wait..appreciate all ideas on this matter, and thanks for all your help, friends!

If I do not receive a response and payment within an hour of the person calling "I'll Take It" they are done and I move on to the next in line.

If I get more than one offer in the same day, I will wait until end of day for the first responder to pay up. If they haven't paid by the time I wake up the next day, I offer it to the next guy in line.

I always keep the sales thread up and open to offers until I have received payment and do not fully close the thread until the buyer has received the knife and verified that they are happy with it.

It's up to you as the seller and can depend on the situation.

When I purchase something by saying I'll take it, I initiate the private conversation by sending an email or PM.

The buyer sent me a PM asking for my payment info. I sent him 2 PM's (about a half an hour after his "I'll take it" post) since he cannot receive emails. But to this time he has not responded.

Back up For Sale it goes
You try to do the proper thing and the professional thing..
BUT as we all know if you have spent time in here.
Claiming they will take it..and no immediate follow up..MEANS nothing..
I state clearly in my sales threads--IMMEDIATE communication to receive payment
info is essential..
Payment will be received upon my discretion..
If not paid in a timely manner. I simply sell it and move on.
I have run into MANY unhappy folks..Although I provided proof of my communication
and that is that

Well, you did all you could. Hopefully nothing happened you them but smooth and timely communication is a must in every deal.

Thanks gizmoman! I just put "still available" on the thread. I guess some people should not try to buy something if they can't really do it. It is sad but I suppose it happens every so often. Oh well, their loss. We should have a list of these kinds of people so everyone will know they do not really intend to purchase anything but just want to waste our time.

I don't disagree with anything posted so far in the thread. Solid communication is a must in all transactions.

If another buyer comes along that can purchase it immediately and/or provides a clear line of communication sell it to them.

Just a thought about the original "I'll take it" guy. What if he responds to your PM in the next hour or two and explains he's been at work all day? Are you still going to follow through with that original buyer?

Let me add. IF that is the case, he was at work or not able to respond or pay immediately it should have been communicated to the seller right off the bat so you're not left hanging.

Once I sent a PM to a mod here, about that situation, and he said that the seller sets the terms, and can sell to anyone that they want to, at any time. If I have a knife that generates little interest, I will be much more patient, than if I was selling an item that generated a much higher response.

I agree with you 100% jkwithawave about the "leaving me hanging" part. He should have communicated so I would know something at least. I guess if he responds before anyone else I could follow through with him. But if someone else responds and pays right away then it is his loss obviously.

It really isn't up to the seller to wait if he wasn't notified of a delay. When I say I'll take it, I immediately send a pm asking for PP info.
The one time I didn't pay right away I had to go deposit some funds. Let the seller know and I paid an hour later.
It's a shame if something came up for the buyer, but it takes seconds to pm a delay notification.
Update your thread bro.

You should always add a clause to your for sale posts saying "be sure to ask your wife first, BEFORE saying I'll take it"

Or make sure she has NO clue and send it to a friend's place!!! Hopefully he'll give it to you!!

And what if the seller decides not to accept your offer to buy?
