Wait time for a buyer???

Do you inform the person who offered to buy that he has it?

As a matter of fact, I do not. If you have the time to say "I'll Take It" and not follow up with a PM then you lose. It gets tiring when people say they will take it then fall off the face of the earth.

Ive never tried to bargain and accept their listed price. Haven't been refused yet and had some excellent transactions!
Joe

The buyer solicits offers. The prospective buyer offers to buy. The seller says he accepts = contract of sale. Until the seller accepts a prospective buyer's offer, there is no deal. The seller has the right to refuse to sell to you even if you offer to buy at the seller's suggested price.

Of course, the seller could say, "First 'i'll take it' is accepted "

If the buyer is not a member maybe post up your email so he can contact you that way.. But at the end of the day nothing pisses me off more than someone derailing a sales thread. Once the thread has been derailed it is so hard to draw interest because people are either unsure if it actually sold and don't want to be bothered chasing a seller around or other interested parties have moved on to the next greatest knife they have to have..

Thanks everyone for your input. I put down that the knife is still available so we'll see what happens. Appreciate it!!

Hi All,

Just a question for you. I listed a knife for sale and had someone say "I'll take it" but then no response to my PM's. How long do I wait for a response and payment? It has only been a day so far but I am curious. Every knife I've bought from someone I have paid for promptly when they sent me their info. Maybe something unforeseen happened so they cannot get in touch yet? I'm just wondering what's a good time period to wait..appreciate all ideas on this matter, and thanks for all your help, friends!

It's your call entirely. I would usually wait a few hours to a day if I knew or dealt with the person before. Unfortunately, there are a lot of entitle tire kicker types lately that unknowingly tie up a thread by stating they want the item, then they don't follow through with payment or communication at the very least. Communication is a courtesy and takes literally a minute or two.

I just looked at the ad - when looking at the "buyer's" profile, I see that he hasn't been logged onto the site since just after he posted his claim. Based on that, I'd move on - if he was serious about purchasing, he'd put some effort into it. Further, just a week ago, he claimed another item & didn't follow through - I wouldn't waste my time with him.

Thanks hhmoore, I will not waste my time with this guy. And Lone_Wolfe, if I can figure out how to do that I will let management know about this guy since he seems to do this all the time. It's very sad that people like him aren't booted off this site since they cause a lot of grief for everyone. Thanks again!!

Find the thread that HMoore is referring to just above, and PM a link to Mr Rev Devil.

This is something that pisses me off to no end. If you want the item and go through the trouble of making a post claiming it, pay for it! If you can't afford the item, or you are flip flopping, scared of your wife finding out, or whatever else, don't post and move along. Don't make people wait for you to cough up money or some lame ass excuse. When people do this with consistency, they earn infractions, we skip the warnings, the warnings are located in the rules so it behooves everyone to read and follow them. In fact, it's not like there are hundreds of rules to follow, the few we have are based in common sense and the Golden Rule. If people can't be bothered to something as simple as that, it really makes me wonder how they manage to operate a computer, find a forum, register an account and actually post in it.

You all know what these guys are doing. They see an interesting knife offer and post "I'll take it." THEN they go off and Google prices and Google specs. Then they decide "naahhh" and walk away, without even the courtesy of telling the seller "thanks, but I'll pass."

Report it right away so we can remove their post to clean up your thread. I love to clean up interference in an Exchange thread. It is one of the easiest jobs for a moderator, anyway.

if you have time to post an ill take it then you have time to gather paypal instructions and then pay.

in my sales threads I always put you have thirty minutes to confirm payment or it goes to the next. Its happened to me a few times hence the 30 minute time frame.

So...interestingly enough, same buyer who said he'll take it days ago just got back to me, apologized for the delay, and sent me the funds. I will ship the knife out to him tomorrow. It has been a strange experience but I guess the end result is good so that's that. Thanks to all who responded. I was worried actually that something may have happened to him. Glad that was not the case. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FRIENDS!! And thanks again!!

Actually an offer + acceptance does NOT equal a contract. An offer + acceptance + consideration usually does but not always.

That said, I'm glad things worked out for the OP.

Would you mind elaborating what you mean by consideration?

Oh gosh, more of this back and forth legal chit chat. I'm sure Thomas is typing up a long post as we speak.

On topic, I hope it works out for the OP. How someone communicates is also a deciding factor on if I will do business with them. As it turns out, those with poor communication skills often times are the ones who end up with poor life skills and thus difficult to deal with in general. It can bite you in the butt down the line.
