Waiting for Buck Knives to start up in Post Falls...

ShivSam:
You stupid jarhead.

Only a Marine has the right to call a Marine "Jarhead". And it is not an insult. :p

If you don't think Buck pay is enough, then don't work for them.

I don't see your logic as to why Buck should go to Taiwan.

This seems like the perfect guy to be working on industrial machinery surrounded by sharp pieces of metal for 40 hours a week.

OK u dont want them (Buck Knives,Inc.) fine West Virginia will take them and we have lots of Big Deer here!!! most all companes have a learning wage, its called 'entry leavel' and i at 41 took 6.50$ hr jobs to make a liveing rather then sh-t back on unemlployment... shive sam wake up, yoou dont have to go to work there, tho if you are on unemployment you may have to apply for a job there :o course maby you dont want to work.... and you can keep your race comments to your self, i got tired of hearing it years ago from thoes with too little intelgenace to know better and grow up on their own...

LIFE,WORK & WAGES 101 esp for wineing shive sam...
the reality is this we had a printing company move in and they did not pay as much nere as they did were they left... ok no big deal lots of people applyed for and got jobs and lots of them left they had a tremdenous trunover rate... starting pay went up and the rate droped some... the amount of pay increase after 6 mos went up and the turn over rate droped some more.... this whole time the quility of employees went up.... the rate for 'skilled' trades in maintaince also went up and even more as if machines dont run company dont make mony... down time is no mony time for all...

so silly shivsam - if buck is inapropeatly under the line in wages it will catch up with then and certently show up in quality!!!! you only have bargon employees for a short time as others will hire the underpaid away from them and they will be left only with the trash workers which will show upb as trash product. Buck Knives is mostly famley operated and watched over NOT jest in the office but in the shop and on the production line... Joe spent his time on the line (did'nt you ?) so did CJ and AL. they will know what is giong on and adjust for what is needed. it is the calforina laws and not the calfroina workers that buck is escaping ...grow up

OK I am confussed [especially as I am overseeing the move to Idaho for Buck]
to date we have only interveiwed for one postion at Buck and the wages ranges were no where near seven dollars, yes we will have entry level jobs that pay in that range just as we do in California but those interveiws have not started so I have no idea who interveiwed this person maybe it was one of those offshore companies that have been knocking of the world famous Buck products for several decades, they must be up in Idaho pretending to be Buck......... Anyway on a serious note all wage levels for new jobs were bench marked by local wage surveys from larger manufacturing companies in th recruitment area. Todate the department of labor is reporting extreamly high interest in the Buck jobs, so I guess other people don't share this persons opinion, and I don't think the 10 million being spent to build the facility is hurting the local community either, and the several hundred contractors working on the facility are not helpng the local economy either, and all the supply companies who wish to supply operating supplies for the ongoing operation of the Buck manufacturing facility, I guess they will not help the local economy either and the 220 employees who have health care insurance this won't help th local economy either, lets see over 600,000 being spent on training new employees, no I can't see this helping either.
Should I go on or have I made my point????????????

To date this is the first negative comment I have heard about Buck coming to Idaho and thats OK as it is outweighed by all the positive attitudes we have encontered in the area, Buck has a long history of very loyal employees and this is something the family has arned by the way it has treated it's employees both past and current and I am sure the new employees will be just as loyal and well treated as all the past and current emplyees. Sorry for the rant but I needed to set the record straight.

Many thanks, Phil. My computer has been out of commission for the week, but I'm glad I finally caught your posts.

In the meanwhile, I was able to speak with a couple of nice folks at Job Service in CdA, including the Employment Services Supervisor herself, Marla Hobbs-Hill. She suggested I give their building a wide berth for a few days after the applications for Buck became available if I didn't want to get stampeded, so I'll be dropping by there this morning before work. There are apparently plenty of people who are damned glad Buck is here, I'm just one of ‘em.

All right, so the starting wages may not be as high as some folks would like, but they sure seem to be in line with the area, and besides, starting wage is just that - a place to start. Maybe I'm no spring ptarmigan, but I’ve got a broad enough skill-set that there isn’t much I haven’t done or can’t learn. If Buck adheres to the continuous improvement principles of Lean Manufacturing, they no doubt also offer opportunities for advancement based on ability, effort and attitude, so I don’t imagine I would be in an entry-level position for long. That’s the way it works. If you sit around holding your breath waiting to be offered a cushy high-paying job with free beer breaks, dancing girls and limousines, you’re likely to turn mighty blue - unless you go into politics, and I just never learned to lie well enough to be any good at that job. ;)

I managed to make one of the last factory tours at the Buck factory on Thursday. Thanks for showing me around. I'll see you guys tomorrow for the last day of your big factory sale.

Thanks,

Dan

Two things I've noticed here .. One : if Buck had only mentioned the move because of high utilities, high WC, taxes ,etc, and not mentioned saving 40% in wages, then no one would have known. Two: ShivSam seems to be a carry over from October: show up ,start some thing and never return. Hmmmmm.

Just got back from the factory sale. I picked up a Big Sky and had it signed by Chuck and CJ. Seem like real nice people.

Thanks,

Dan
