a few people asked to be kept informed as i worked on the Wakizashi...
and so here we go...
the discription of the photos are as follows:

i accidentally dropped the blade point first from about chest hights right
onto the concrete pad in the garage... end result? i dented the floor. darn ;)

okay... not a "big picture" of the "fittings" what are the propper names for
these things? and a close up of the best fit i have done so far... they slide
on perfect but are TIGHT.. no wiggling. gonna try and do a full take down,
with no glue

hping to have it done in a few days
maybe tommorow or saturday
we shall see
that is if i finish the sword before i finish the sheath
should i do it? or wait?
thanks
~Chris

Usually the sword is rough polished and then sent out for the saya work. The final polish will be the last thing to do after everything is fitted and the sword is ready to assemble. I'd get it close, but not perfect then finish up the saya and fittings.

you say that habakis aren't your strong point, but that one is beautiful! I love it!

off topic: how did the feudal Japanese make the tang hole? drill press?:D

you are an inspiration for young knifemakers everywhere!

It looks good to me as well Chris. It starting to come into it. I been working on some new one as well. About 4 at one time. I think I am getting sick. Going to the doctor on Friday. GREAT JOB CHRIS A+-----------

Chris,
Looks great! I am very impressed with your work...and would love to see it sometime. You seem to have a lot more patience than most 20 yr. olds.
Keep up the great work!

the tsuba is linnin micarta, and the fuchi is horn the kashira is going to be a combination of the two when it is polished you have a hard time telling the difference, but the micarta is more... reslient

hey everybody..
well i didnt get it done this weekend (i had to study too) but i did get the sheath and handle done. the fittings are done (except for the habaki, that i need to polish) the sheath is made from really hard poplar (heavy too)

this carving took me forever there will be a collar on the saya (and no there isnt a gap between teh slabs... it is glue)

the sheath is still kinda fat... and the blade stick a bit.. but it will "break in" very nicely.. that and when i get the glue off the blade...
