Hmm… Mine developed some rust after cleaning when I had the knife apart. I had to use Flitz to get it off. Maybe the hardening? Editing my post.

Stainless not Rust proof.
I have had some stainless steels rust in my pocket
It is usually just surface rust that will pretty much wipe off.

The 400 series stainless steels contain little or no nickle and less chromium so they are less corrosion resistant.
