walking out door; couldn't pick which knife

Knife decision anxiety is real.
Dude.....you have no idea how bad I got it. I have about a dozen different knives that I carry regularly. I fight with myself every morning as to which one I'm gonna carry that day. I actually waste valuable time dicking around trying to pick the one that I want for that day. It really sucks.

Yep. Standing indecisively at the knife drawer is a very real situation.

I was walking out the door to go to grocery store. i had two knives on the table. benchmade 940-1 and valet. a long pause followed. i chose the benchmade valet. sometimes these small insignificant decisions are the toughest. For the past 2 years 940-1 has been that choice. i guess it has a contender now.
Great thread mt85, LMAO.
The first time I caught myself doing this, I thought, "what the hell are you doing?" shaking my head with a big smile on my face.
The Valet looks great. I finally got to see one about a month ago.

I'm gonna do what morviorv said "pick the blade that I want to carry the night before". That should save me valuable time.
That's good thinking. :D I do that with socks and underware as it is often dark and I don't like fishing around for stuff.

It is a first world problem for sure but the problem of knife choice anxiety (KCA) is real. The worst is when I know I am going to be around a bunch of other knife nuts. When going to Blade Show I damn near go in to full blown hysteria!

...I was thinking of the same
situation, and then the more
that are acquired, the harder
the decisions become.
Then, you end up with a small
deep pocket, perhaps multi-tool,
a Large dominant pocket folder,
and a medium sized one in your
opposite pocket...
Maybe even one I.W.B. and/or a
Smaller fixed blade on belt.
-Of-course, based on your job,
or plans for the day, etc
'should' help to make adequate
knife carry decisions. B.T.B.

Yep, socks and undies get pulled out and sat next to the knife and ring as well. Scoop it all up soon as i wake up.
It literally keeps mr from being late every day. Lol

Yea..life was simpler when i had only one edc. it is definitely a real thing, and it is definitely comical. I guess people who collect shoes or watches have similar issues. Also if you are into photography and you own many lenses but only want to carry one for convenience. That is also a tough one especially if you have only prime lenses.
I struggle a little with the photography selections/choices for an outing unless I will be driving and working out of my vehicle. It is always the same line of thinking... What am I likely to photograph? What do I need? What do I want? Do I need a tripod or will I be willing to carry it? It could be the same with knives I guess. Don't really have much of a problem with knives as I have my regular SAK in the pocket and anything else is just for the fun of it. So, no pressure.

I pretty much always carry one "fancy knife" and a "beater." ...or one toy and one tool. Fancy knife is usually a Seb, Inkosi or XM-18. Beater is typically one of many FRN Spydies. There may be a split second where it's hard to choose but I'm able to swiftly break it down. I'm a Residential carpenter so the current job can dictate what I carry. My most common work day carry is 3.5" XM-18 paired with a Spyderco Native 5 LW S35VN.

I figured this would be a thread you open and find a picture of a guy with 3 knives in every pocket of his jeans. I spend too much time on this site, apparently.

Came expecting this.
I also stare blankly at the knife drawer many times trying to pick the daily carry. I have more than two options though.

You mean like a SHTF emergency? Frankly almost any knife will do for the most part as long as it's sharp. But as always, it depends.

That's not a hard decision... you take all of them.
I grabbed about a dozen, maybe a dozen and a half. As I am starting to go through all the gear I grabbed, I find knives tucked into side pockets and in almost all the bags and packs I used when getting ready to evacuate. One knife that I missed was my fathers hunting knife. I won't make that same mistake twice.

Fortunately, all I had to do was pack. The winds shifted so flames never touched my house and I never did have to leave. Some of my friends and associates were not so lucky. One of them told me that you are almost forced to rebuild on the same property because of the way the insurance is set up. He lost everything, including his early Pontiac Firebird that he was almost finished restoring.

On a more positive note, one friend told me that as his family left their home, he grabbed the Gerber multi-plier I had given him months before. He said that it was a great comfort to have that in his pocket. I would wager good money that he won't leave it behind if he ever has to evacuate again.

I have a hard time choosing a knife unless I pre plan and really ponder it before I get dressed. But then sometimes I change my mind and make myself late.

Fire department: Sir you need to evacuate your home immediately, there is a raging fire on the way. Grab ESSENTIALS only and run!

Knife nut: Ok got it, thank you! Runs immediately past sleeping cat to knife drawer and grabs every last one of them LOL

I'm imagining tossing my knives out the window onto that trampoline kinda thing the FD uses and yelling "save my babies!!!"

Well, I don't have THAT many but out of the pile of "superior" knives.... I always seem to gravitate back to the OLD style (AND SERRATED) ....Delica.

Which.....of course.... is one of the damn FIRST knives I ever got.

So why did I get the others?

Because the chicken crosses the road I guess. :D
