How about a section of tubing slipped over the staff and epoxied and/or pinned, with a machined plug with o-rings and compass, a la K&M match case? Add a machined tip for the bottom end with a tire stud in it for traction.
Looks like it would be pretty abrasive on the hand after a while.
Personally I go through 2-3 walking sticks a day, I always forget it when I stop and by the time I realize its missing it's quicker to cut a new one than go back and retrieve it
Awesome work - I prefer a straight grain, knot free shaft myself for strength but you have made a truly unique and beautiful item - thanks for sharing with us
I finally got a chance to use a lathe on the stick - I cut it down to size - made it fit the handle perfectly, threaded the stick, and turned a base piece for it that press fit perfectly.
I made the base out of machinable plastic and see how that works. If it is not good enough - I will likely machine one out of brass.
I have to get the top annodized - set the ferro stick and stain the wooden stick.
