I received this absolutely beautiful knife yesterday and the pictures don't do it justice ! Being use to looking at everything I do under hevy magnifacation, I gave Bruce's dagger the once over more than a few times. It was without doubt one of the best finished & shaped knives I have ever held. Taking it apart, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the unseen interior was finished as well as the exterior ----- Engraving this piece will be a real pleasure ! I only hope whoever takes the finished pictures is really good, it would be criminal not to have this knife shown at it's best. Thank you Mr. Bruce for your confidence, I'll not let you down.

PS, I'm taking a break from doing the design work so I could write this report to the board members ---- now back to work. As I told you, you'll have this knife back within two weeks.

ken...i know it'd be a pain in the neck but i'm sure everyone would love to see a few in progress shots of your work.....i know i have no idea hpow engraving is done .....ryan

RYAN, I'll get my wife to take a few different shots of the piece in the vise as work progresses. She will then post them for me while I continue to work. Today, I have been doing some light layout work on the knife ---- nothing worthy of pic taking however.

thanks ken....i will be looking forward to it.....remember those of us like myself who haven't the faintest idea of engraving appreciate all those pics that might be common to you.....ryan:thumbup:

That would, indeed be a gift to us Ken. Please thank Mrs. Hurst for doing that for us. How exciting, the work of two masters!

I watched Brian Lyttle do some engraving last year at Ashokan. It really is amazing to see the work progress from some lines drawn on the steel to a beautiful embellishment. I'd love to learn someday just to do some simple work. Looking forward to seeing it, Ken!

Hi Ken, thanks for the kind words. I think I sent it to the right engraver. Cant wait to see what you come up with. I want to make a metal throat and tip on the sheath to match so you will get those too.
If its easier I can post the pictures if your wifie emails them to me. I have a photbucket account.

Good morning Mr. Bruce. It's 2:13 AM this Sunday morning and I just left the vise:yawn: So far, I have cut special border on both sides of the pummel and have drawn a design which I will cut today after I get up. Will send you a picture of it and others as work progresses. The picture will show the scroll pattern but without the shading & background removed & stippled --- at least it's a quick start ..................

2 AM? when do you sleep?
Sounds good Ken. I can post them here as I get them. It will be very interesting to watch this dagger bloom.

Hi Bruce, back at it again this morning ...... I told you that I work 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day , hell, I'm almost 70 ---- what else is there for me to do but work ? I have 1/2 of the pattern I laid out on the pummel done and am getting ready to start on the other half. This will complete one side of the pummel in so far as cutting the design. The shading, background removal & stippling follows. More to come as it developes .....

I got the first picture from Ken today. Here is one side of the rear bolsters (pommel) It looks like its going have some real nice detail. It sure is hard to capture on a small picture. Ken can you send bigger images?

Very nice work indeed.

Would it be out of line to ask how much an engraving job such as this can cost?
Just curious.

Arrrrrrrghh!.... No matter how hard I try.... I can't get that pic to scroll over!!!!!!

I'm going to try and get my wife to take a better pic of the side of the pummel and the top strap today. Will forward same to Mr. Bruce so he can post them.

FYI --- the scroll is relieved about .010" and finely stippled & the border is a wide trench instead of the standard narrown border usually seen.

Thanks for the second set of pics Ken. Tell the wifie they look much clearer.
I really like the treatment you did on the straps (frame) Very nice! So detailed.
