I worked Corp American Standard for 6 years.....1999 - 2005. Home Depot literally caused almost every American plant to close. Couldn't meet the prices they wanted. Now there are 4 plants in Mexico, a few in China, Czech Republic, Thailand............
Probably close to 50,000 American jobs lost. Quality literally went in the toilet.
Wonderful.

Joe- This is exactly why I purchase all of my lumber & building materials at local lumber companies, vs. The Home Depot. Aside from giving me a headache, THD, is one of thee most poorly run business I've had the displeasure of shopping in (sometimes it's unavoidable & I have to purchase there).
As for knives: I'd rather purchase a new Spyderco, or what have you, from one of the reputable dealer's here, who support this forum, rather than a Walmart...regardless if it's less expensive.
From this day forward, whenever I drive by a Walmart, I won't be able to stop myself from thinking about Brother Krav, & his urinal experience.
I took a dump in the urinal at Walmart yesterday.
As for prices of things, I use the example of vitamins and shampoo, with the exact same brand being sold at two different stores.
Same country of manufacture (Canada for one, USA for the other).
At Shopper's Drug Mart, it costs exactly twice the price normally; on sale it's only 25% more expensive.
Why should I pay up to double the cash for the same product, when both are chain stores that pay minimum wage or very slightly more?
And that makes you a douchebag, think of the person who had to clean up after you. How old are you?
We have so many different retailers to choose from here in San Diego, which I guess is part of the reason why I choose to shop elsewhere. That, & the fact that I have a very good friend who used to be a manager at a Wal-Mart. What she told me (the way they treat their own employees), vastly changed the way I feel about them.
Don't forget toothpaste, a blender, a new shower curtain, an extension cord, potting soil, a goldfish and to get your oil changed!
They played a major role in closing down US production of a company I worked at. On the bright side the son of the CEO was in sales for the company. He thought he was better than the blue collar workers at the plant. Guess who's working for WalMart now?I'm down, saw a documentary on how Walmart gets their low prices. They basically bully companies to lower their prices until the company barely makes a profit. They just about ran Rubbermaid out of business, and other businesses.
A friend of my son recently went through the same thing. He is a full time student and they knew it when they hired him. They completely disregarded his class schedule when making "their' schedule.I only said that because I worked at Walmart for about two weeks. Told them I had to have certain days off for class and that I had to have a daytime job. Well they ignored both and put me working night shifts every night. I got sick and when I called in to tell em I couldn't come in I got fired. That was fun[emoji106]
And awaay we go!
I hope Walmart implodes one day....
Drinks will be on me.
Walmart isnt legal in LA because of some stupid technical law making thing, THANK GOD
So you don't like Capitalism basically. I shop at Wal-mart all the time and have no problem with them.
I read the link you posted, I always thought it was interesting that people say "Walmart brings jobs to the community" being as that in the town near me Walmart put more than a few business out of business and then hires some of those same people who lost their job for less money then they were making.
Many Walmart employees draw on government assistance JUST TO GET BY.
The reality is Walmart makes billions of dollars and pays its employees peanuts and then tries to SQUASH any and all employee attempts to get paid a higher wage.
Read up on the current issue of employees being monitored and fired for speaking to one another about coming together. Perhaps you already know and just don't care.
How much do you think a Walmart employee makes? They (Walmart and its supporters) constantly boast about how many people they employ but can the VAST majority of those workers afford a mortgage, car payments, health insurance, groceries, baby formula , diapers, a movie every so often or a yearly vacation to a family member in another state? I HIGHLY doubt it.
Like I said, find out the number of Walmart employees receiving government assistance and calculate that into how helpful Walmart actually is to a community...
