OK I bought one. I'm not happy because I can't pick it up until tomorrow? Stupid electronic checking system in CT. I traded my S&W model 317. The p-22 has a laser sight on it. I have never had one before. I don't remember where I posted it if it was here or gadgets about the model 317. It started by shooting bullets sideways out of the gun. Sent back to S&W and that problem was fixed. It never shot for me as well as I thought it should. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Saw this Walther and decided to try it out. Any comments on the gun. Reliability, accuracy, the laser sight? I intend to use it primarily as a camping and maybe a hunting gun.

Comments?

ok...i owned one and it was a hoot...just make sure you use PREMIUM rounds...i used some cheap remington and was cycling the slide after each round...I was so mad i thought i had a broken pistol.I almost through it down the range. I called customer service at Walther and they told me i had to use High Velocity stuff...well I said this remington was High Velocity...they said it wasnt high enough...so I went and got some CCI stinger on their suggestion, and that fixed the problem....never a jam or failure to cycle. good pistol with lots of toys availiable for it.

just keep them clean and fed properly, and she will treat you good

A buddy of mine has one it doesn't have a laser sight but it has the target barrel. Its pretty fun to shoot.

Never had any problems with it but I have heard that they can be finicky with ammo.

Don't limp wrist it. I bought one for my daughter, if she doesn't put a god grip on it it can be finicky. Otherwise great little gun, great for teaching kids.

FWIW my experience with the cheap Remington crap was the same as yours in every 22 I own. Also, I had about 1 in 9 were duds. It just isn't worth the headache no matter how cheap that crap is.

CCI always seem to work. For the bulk stuff, I've found that Federal Wallyworld works in everything I own. I've heard the same of the Winchester.

I traded for one so I had a sidearm match for my GSG-5. My son and I took it out and of course had to get different ammo. Went with Winchester Wildcats and they seem to run out of both guns. We love it. With the surefire flashlight on it you can be ready in the dark. Use an oil that is teflon based. Rem-oil works the best. Have fun.

I have several hundred round through mine and it has been really fun. It is in fanny pack I keep in my truck with survival kit gear. I have had good success with many brands of ammo. I have opted to stick with Aguila high velocity, Fiocchi HV(made by Aguila)and CCI mini-mags. I buy in bulk. I find the HV rounds work well in all three of my 22's (Ruger MkII Govt, Ruger 10/22). The P22 is no where near as accurate to shoot as the MKII but it is fun. I sometimes set up an, "action pistol" range with 22 spinner targets at the farm and have a good cheap time. Sure costs less with less noise than my 45 acps.

I have found the p22 to be a fun, compact, reliable 22 that is easy to carry and not picky about ammo.

I owned a P22 several years ago. It was a very nice pistol. It was not particualr about what ammo was in it as some seem to be. I enjoyed it while I had it. Why don't I still have it you ask. I let it go with all my other pistols in favor of my wheel guns.

Picked it up. I feel a sickness coming on tomorrow, cough - cough, and hopefully get to play with it and post some pics.

I have three of them. The earlier ones had magazine feed issues but Walther is currently on the third generation magazine and it apparently has stopped most of the early reliability issues. You can look at the magazines and the newest ones have codes ending with the letter "B". You can also look at the extractor portion close to the slide and see the date of manufacture. I believe AI is 2008 and AJ will indicate 2009 made P-22's.

I had a little trouble getting my laser sighted just right but other than that they are fun little guns.

As mentioned in a few other posts CCI Mini Mags are really the way to go with this gun and most autoloader .22's They run about $7.00 per 100 and are available in round nose or hollow point variants.

Walther just introduced a new .380 designed almost identical to the P-22 A few have hit the local gun shops so be on the look-out. Street price is around $310-$320

I had one, I ended up selling it and getting a ruger single six. My P-22 had issues with the saftey engading while it was being fired...bang, bang, bang, click...saftey, bang, bang, bang, click...saftey. Sent it back to S&W (Walthers US distributor) and they fixed the problem but I just never really liked it. It was just too small for my hands and therefore not very fun to shoot. A good friend of my bought one around the same time I did and he has the same issue with his saftey.

I have never owned one, but I shot a freinds and I accidentally dropped the mag by hitting the release with my finger somehow, this is while shooting...I didnt think a whole lot of the gun. It seems that folks either love them or hate them. I would say that I have kinda bigger hands. Gene

any body heard about that senator from Ill. who wants to to get a bill in congress saying that all semi autos have to be regstered with the Feds and that if you do not it will be a felony.
My sister read that to me a few days a back. If that is true then then your waiting period where you live now is just a walk in the park compared to that crap.
As to your gun qeustion a freind of mine has one and liks his.

my girlfriend has one, and though it's a nice pistol, the magazine release is the worst i've ever seen(part of the trigger guard). i can imagine an accidental release of the mag is more than possible.

With good ammo, this is a real sweet shooting handgun. I fired 1000 rounds of ammo IN ONE DAY through mine without a problem. When shooting with your thumbs FORWARD (two hand grip), watch out that you do not touch the slide - INSTANT stoppage.

I bought one with a laser for my 12 y/o son and it's a great shooter. IMHO, it's "too safe" a gun, but it's fine for someone to learn on. It is a pain in the butt to take-down and will not fire w/o a magazine inserted.

Thus far, it has been 100% reliable with about 1,000 rounds fired. Shoots everything we've fed it including some 20+ y/o Remington 22LR. I have heard that it does have issues after about 5,000 rounds fired, but we're not there yet to verify that.

I shot one once. It was an older one. Accuracy was OK at best (for me, one time only mind you.) I had a 317 that was accurate, but it loosened up and extraction got difficult after 150 rounds without cleaning.

I believe there are "fluff 'n' buff" articles on the older models to improve reliability.

I don't have one but looked it over in the gun store. What interested me was that it was small (but not too small) and light. Would be a nice backpacking gun. I really liked the two toned finish with the silver slide. I ended up not buying because the trigger pull was a little heavy and not crisp. I was told there was not much you could do to correct it.

I've had a pretty positive experience with my P22, a five-inch compensated model with the single tone black finish.

It does have a taste for higher-end ammunition---I went from your standard HiV Remington to CCI Stinger and VelociRaptor, which have functioned flawlessly. I also used Eley Limited target ammunition, but that is coming at a higher and higher premium these days; their low-end stuff is coming to almost six dollar per box of 50 for .22LR!

A nice little gun, fun to putt around with, and it makes you feel like James Bond (although his is a P99).

:D
