Wife and I went to a game lodge the weekend .... apart from leopard and heyna ...no predators so we took a bush walk. Images of what we saw ... sun started setting as we returned so the blade porn was out of focus ... sorry :D

Sun just about to go to sleep..... we had about 20 minuets of walk left.

Zebra .....silly looking and behaves very much like donkeys

This is Bushveldt with thorn trees. It was getting nippy so we stayed in the open. The bush is also sickle bush which is real hell to walk though as it cuts and stabs you with evil black thorns.

Pink sky is due to dust in air ...... Blue Wildebeest (Clowns of the open veldt and red hartebeest)

Red hartebeest ...... in it's prime, even a Cheetah cannot out run it .... and they can sustain 100km/h plus for much longer than the Cheetah. Oh ...this one was shy.

Very nice. I've a mate that lives not so far from the Kruger NP. I'd really like to get out there.

I agree ...just need to figure out how to work less  Off too Botswana tomorrow for further contract negotiations so apart from a 6 hour drive ... all fun and games.

To all those who dream of Africa ...just do it!! There is no reason not too. The USD runs at 10:1 to the local currency so food is cheap, accom is cheap, car rental is cheap ........ flights are long end expensive so I would say at least 20 days. Is it dangerous ..... yes, as are other parts of the world. If you use common sense, you are in no more danger than in the USA.

Happy to share the little I know so don't hesitate too ask..... but don't feed the travell pimps trying to sell you a all in one package..... they will make a meal off you. A family of 4 would be hard pushed to spend more than USD 2000 on a 3 week trip including all. Or you could spend that in one day at a fancy lodge and see nothing.

For some info on SA National parks ...get some idea here .... http://www.sanparks.org/ and no, you don't need a 4x4.

aubrey,
i like to spend time in south africa, around kimberly and blaumfontain, it is a great country, if it were closer to the usa you would be up to your neck in americans. i have toured south africa a couple of times and hunted there. i have a friend that runs a game concession and love to visit him when possible. BEAUTIFULL COUNTRY, GREAT HUNTING AND GAME VIEWING.
