Wanna know what Bear is my hero?

Les Stroud = Cool
Bear Grylls = Tool

That is too funny!! I hate most all tv. I will watch the tool and les stroud, and some military channel stuff, but thats about it.

Has anyone seen the air force pararescue documentary on national geographic? I enjoyed that too, I wish I could find it on dvd.

Sorry, didnt meen to hijack....

That looks like a Rambo II 'the mission' knife lashed to the end of that pole. I wonder if it is a real Jimmy lile or a cheaper knock off. Those knives can command a pretty penny these days if it was a Lile.

I think all this is just envy. You know you love Bear. You all worship him, as I do. I get up early every day, around ten. I start every day with my Bear Grylls Hotel Survival Knife (HSK). It not only works in hotels, but right here on my back porch. I use it to slice my English (that's right English) muffins.

I like Bear, I realize his show isn't 100% real, however, Les has a crew of people not far away and a satalite phone... His show isn't really 100% real either.

Instead of nit picking why tv shows aren't realistic enough I enjoy them for what they are.

Bear does do many things that can be described as "stupid" but he also shows quite a few GOOD tips. Awhile back in the news there was a story on two kids that fell through some ice, the only thing that saved their life was remember what Bear Grylls did when he 'fell' through ice on Man Vs Wild. So technically he saved the life of two kids with that show.

If you read up about him you'll see he genuinely seems like a good person.

Bear was in the SAS for years... If anyone really thinks he is a "tool" maybe you should remember just because someone is an actor doesn't mean their personal life is as whats shown on tv. Read up about his life and compare your own before you call him a "tool", you might be pointing a finger or two back at yourself.

Unfortunately what entertains and what truly helps in the way of sound advice are typically not the same.
But, if he does something for pure "I just want to show you this" he generally is clear that it is not the best option. At least from the episodes I have seen.
I think he melds entertainment and education well together. I don't think he needs to prove himself any further.

ICEAGE,

It's the misinformation that could get someone killed that I don't like. I'm sure he's a great guy to hang with and even knows his stuff in some ways. True, he shows things that are valid as well. Thank God those kids copied something that worked. But he's too careless about many things and often dead wrong on techniques. Your picture of him jumping off the cliff is an example of the inanity he displays. The risk of injury by doing that in a survival situation -- where a simple sprained ankle can possibly be life-threatening and can make you unable to meet your needs -- makes running and tumbling down slopes and jumping off cliffs into water some of the dumbest things you could do. That's just the start of it.

I agree, he very well might be a great person, I dont know him. Some of his advice sucks though. I doubt the SAS would approve of his carelessness as well. I have read up on him, and draw my own conclusions. He has done amazing things, but his show isnt one of them.

He was 21 SAS, Territorial Army, which is not necessarily the Regular SAS. One must be 21 SAS for at least 3 years, then they may apply for selection by regular 22 SAS. This does not mean they become 22 SAS. It just means they have earned the right to try out. There's a difference between the units.

That is true, kinda like a paper pusher w/ a ranger tab. Just because you have a tab, doesnt mean you are in a regiment. I saw this alot, airborne ranger secretary.....
