Want first Bark River knife!

Barkies are evil. Stay away. They are bad. You've been warned!!

Okay, that seldom works... you gotta try one... then another... then you realize your CC bill rivals the GNP of Tchad. It doesn't stop, either. Mike is unkind... he keeps introducing new models - and renewing old ones; "Oh, the XYZ-1 is now available without the lanyard loop... and in spalted Wambeziwood... gotta have it!".

Seriously, 'custom' quality knives in low production numbers - in good old carbon steel, if you like (Remember, one man's rust is another man's patina!). I love them, despite my small collection of seven. Even my least liked is a super-keeper. Of course, given only one to keep - it'd be my ugliest, but great user - a natural Micarta handled Gameskeeper. Great .215" convex A2 blade - super handle to hand fit, too. If you are frugal, like me, and you recognize Micarta and G10 as great user handles - and serious upgrades some places - you can get less expensive variants. If you love the looks of wood, stag, etc, you can get some beauties, that's for sure. I have my users now, maybe I'll look at 'lookers' next. I already have one - a Bocote-handled Boone - wow!

Get a Barkie - but you have been forewarned. Now, to feed your addiction, besides DLT Trading, there is always Derek at knivesshipfree.com - both are great vendors, from my experience. Gotta go - the good panhandling sites go fast on Saturdays - my 'Need $ for Barkies' sign awaits.

I think the Bravo 1 is a really nice looking knife... I've been going back and forth on getting one of those. They all look like some really good blades.

You to!? My wife is actually getting bent lately about my increased spending. This is the first time in the 18 years we have been together. She is usually pretty passive on the whole situation, but not this time.

As far as Barkies go, I have always wanted to own at least one. I haven't really looked at them lately due to spending my $$ on customs. I will have to take a look at them and maybe make a move. Could be a dangerous one though! lol

Ok I pulled the trigger. I just ordered a Canadian Special orange G10 for the fair price of $146.26 from KSF! I'm very excited. And I'm already contemplating which will be next.

OK, so you are hooked, too!
My two favorites Barkies are the Bravo 1 and the Gameskeeper (either the 1 or the longer 2). Just bear in mind that unless it has wooden scales, the Bravo 1 will come with a Kydex sheath. There is a stainless steel version of the Bravo 1 available, using Crucible's CPM 154CM, but it is very expensive. I think you get better value with the Gameskeeper, and it has a more classic design (although there are Bravo 1s with no ramp available, too). I particularly like the sheath of the Gameskeeper 2.
If you go for a Bravo 1, check this seller on eBay: TSA Knives. He has auctions with no reserve almost weekly, they usually end up selling around 110-130$ with the basic black or green linen micarta handle. I have bought several knives from him and they are always brand new in box.

Well, after doing a bit of looking on their site, here is what I found that really caught my eye!
GamesKeeper in Birdseye Maple and LeopardWood

Bravo 1 in Nat. and Green Canvas Micarta, Ghost Green Jade G-10/ with black liners

Huntsman in Blue Glow G-10 and Green Canvas Micarta

I can see why the Barkies can be soooooo addicting!

The US Mail is pretty damn fast even when it's not Priority! I'm thoroughly impressed. I especially liked how it was in a box and tissue paper much like a CRK, means quality to me. Feels good in the hand, good weight, and sweet convex grind! It's definitely in the sscary sharp category. I accidentally sliced the outside of the sheath posing it for pics. I've already made a list of my next ones: Aurora, Bravo-1, Drop Point Hunter, Montana Guide, and I'm sure it won't stop there!

So here's my first Barkie, the orange G10 Canadian Special:

I have been EDCing this little guy around in my pocket and it's a dandy! Useful on so many levels. My Wife even likes it. Very light. Had a Slither but it was too small. This Mikro is just right! 2" blade and 5" O/A.

That's a nice one. I've had my eye on those to attach to the sheath of the one I just got. Do you know if they still make the Mini Canadian?

Jedi, congratulations! Very nce blade you've got there.

Yes, they still make the mini-Canadian, and a sharp little bugger it can be, too! Bark River is getting ready to make a production run on the mini-Canadian, Lil' Creek, and another one, so if you want to order one to specifically fit your specs, get ahold of DLTtradingCompany or KnivesShipFree pretty quick.

Any advice on sanding down the finger grooves from the side? They're causing a hot spot when tightly gripped.

Start with about 180 grit paper and get it where you like it. Then move to 220, 280, 320, and 400. Then, use acetone and scrub the entire handle down well. A couple of three applications of that. Then finish with paste wax.
