Now I know I could just go out and search myself, but I like to come here first and get others opinions. I carry (religously) my ZT 0566. As much as I love the thing, for my new line of work, I would like something a bit smaller. I work for a highly reputable beverage company as a deliver rep and I'm cutting a lot of plastic off of pallets. Because of the size of the blade, too many times have a came close to slashing the product, as it is somewhat of a fast paced job. Just looking for a cool little folder with a smaller blade, that may fit this job well. No customs! Just looking for something on the lower end, but still cool :p

I was also JUST thinking, that I could make something myself, but....I'm due for a new production folder anyways.

Update: I'm thinking something maybe with a Wharncliffe style blade. Keeping the tip nice and low on the cut.

If it helps any, most guys I work with use simple box cutters. I don't like being like "most" guys, lol, so just looking for something different.

Delica or Dragonfly - two great Spydercos - come immediately to mind.

I probably should mention I own a Delica already . lol. Forgot to mention. I'll check out the DF.

And Blues, I'm looking into short blades around 1.5 to 2".

Also, I'd say around $50.

Spend a little extra coin and get the Dragonfly ZDP-189. It's perfect for you.

1.5"? Dang I didnt know they made knives that small. :p My Native is my most carried work knife. I own many more expensive spydercos (PM2, Manix 2) but for some reason I always throw it in my pocket before work, even now that I broke the pocket clip off at work. It is a stout lockback that is small and light but the ergos are fantastic for cutting up cardboard boxes, like a box cutter but way cooler. The blade steel holds an edge very well has great corrosion resistance. I would know because I work in the weather in southern Louisiana where it rains everyday in the summer and humidity reached 90%+ on most summer days, so its constantly covered in sweat. I occasionally have to wipe a couple tiny surface rust spots off with a rag but thats it.

I do similar tasks and I have used several Dragonflys over the years... I say several because I have a habit of losing them but they work great. lightweight, quality build, easy deployment. I prefer the full serrated edge for cutting plastics and tie wraps and such... the cut grooves are superthin and razor sharp

The Natives a nice looking blade but, very similar to my ZT in looks and size.

How about a Spyderco Dice? Awesome little knife. A lot of fun to open watching that little blade rocket out.

Edit: Of course I should read more carefully, something I always yell at others about. It's more than $50.

The Native is actually a lot smaller than the 0566.

How do you feel about a Cold Steel Tuff Lite?

Or on the higher end, Spyderco Yojimbo 2 or even a Kizer Rogue?

I just looked it up. That's one sweet little blade. I may have to spend a little more!
Edit: Just noticed it's selling for $180+. Maybe not. Lol

It's blade length is 2.5", but I'll give another note for the Cold Steel Tuff Lite. Sounds perfect for your work tasks.

I used a dragonfly zdp for years as a grocery store clerk and it worked great for all the plastic wrap i had to cut through.

Then when i worked in all the different warehouses i was at, i found cutting through cardboard boxes, the spydie hole would catch on them quite a bit. So i alternated a ontario rat 2 and a esee zancudo at the time which both worked great for that.

I think the rat 2 was also good about not cutting into the boxes on the other side of the plastic wrap. I think its due to having a belly on it near the tip. You can slash right through the wrap at an angle so the tip doesn't catch anything else. The bladetech katana lite was good for this too.

As for wharnies, i never found them to really offer much more protection from cutting something like your talking about. They still have a point on them that will most likely cut the product on the other side(spyderco kiwi and pacific salt).

The svord mini peasant is a good choice too if you like friction folders.

Has anyone tried a brand called Kubey? They have two that have titanium handles and D2 steel? I really like the two I own and bought on Amazon.

I think a Wharncliff is the way to go for a lot of box cutting (for everything actually!)

Maybe even a Hawkbill if you're just opening them for the most part?

I would use this guy for that single purpose:

Apart from the Spyderco Dice that was mentioned here (which may replace my 0566 edc in the near future :D ), I really am looking for something not so expensive. Those Al Mars arent cheap. I don't need anything super extravagant. Just something that wont fall apart after a week or two. And that looks decently nice.

JR88 how big is that blade?
