Want new folding blade for work....

BladeArt has the BladeTech Mouse Lite for $20. Has a 2 inch blade and built pretty well.

Another option that I used to use quite a bit was a Kershaw Chive or Leek. when you unclip it from your pocket you can open the assisted flipper and start cutting almost in one movement.

Cold Steel mini tuff lite. About 20$, small, amazing lock of course, may not be a true wharncliffe but similar, non threatening (lame I know), and the list goes on. I personally use the regular tuff lite and I believe that would serve you well but if you want small go for the mini. Aus-8A steel more than enough for your tasks.

I think a Wharncliff is the way to go for a lot of box cutting (for everything actually!)

Maybe even a Hawkbill if you're just opening them for the most part?

I would use this guy for that single purpose:

I too was thinking some type of traditional, that hawksbill is nice. I specifically had a micarta Sodbuster in mind.

I just looked it up. That's one sweet little blade. I may have to spend a little more!
Edit: Just noticed it's selling for $180+. Maybe not. Lol

You can usually find a nice Spyderco Dice for less than $180 when they pop up on the Exchange. The only thing is they don't come up too often.

I also like the CS Tuff Lite. Blade shape is ideal for opening packages. They are a GREAT value. And, they are sharp as sh*t right out of the box.

colu41,

For the types of daily tasks you mentioned, a common box-cutter style geometry was designed for this (Wharncliffe)
A Wharncliffe design (the cutting geometry) would work well; because the transfer of force to cutting edge is very high.

Spyderco Yojimbo design comes of this same principal. Michael Janich speaks of how this is important in the methods he employees with this design (majority cutting force directed energy to the tip, and the tip driving into the cut instead of away from it (example: with same a more traditional drop point design with an up-sweeping cutting edge). For your tasks the Yojimbo might be a little too thin in the tip (designed as a defensive cutter/slasher). It is a sick slasher/cutter folder though.

Cold Steel Tuff-Lite, as others have already mentioned, also comes to mind (as a low cost folder options with Wharncliffe geometry). BTW, makes a great pipe tobacco cutter as well :-) I think it's available in two sizes (small/large).

EDIT:
Possibly check out Gerber EAB

Take a look at the Kizer 3416. It's my favorite 2.5" blade knife that has great materials at a low price. It's not a Wharny, but that may not be your best blade shape for cutting bands and wrap without damage to lower layers.

Im leaning towards the CS Tuff Lite. But now thinking about having another assisted opener as maybe a must. Because I love mine. Hmm

The Rexford Rut also would be neat. Has bottle opener for sampling the products ;) and a small pry bar for those pesky shipping staples.

I was literally about 3 seconds away from buying this! Until I saw the price....man!

I see nothing wrong with the Spyderco Cat and Chicago models for what you need to do. Three of either model can be had for the price of just one of some of the other blades suggested thus far. In fact, either model makes a great holiday stocking stuffer because the G10 scales exude a sense of quality without requiring you to part with too many simoleons.

Those are 2 sweet little blades. That may be a winner. Either one.

Good suggestions Deltadag, i always forget about those two spydies. I change my suggestions to the dragonfly or cat.

One handed opening I'd go with a Spyderco Leek. Two handed opening, a small SAK like a Secretary or Solo. I wouldn't spend much on a work knife as there is higher chance of losing the knife.

Kershaw leek. Swiss army floral knife.

Another vote for the Vic. It's more durable than it looks, inexpensive, replaceable and checks both "on the lower end" and "little folder with a smaller blade" needs of the OP.

Wharnie/Sheepsfot that performs, weighs nothing, carries nicely, has a non-offensive look to it and comes in different colors, you can own a collection of the for little money.
