Welcome aboard Steven. God bless your uncles for their service. I know things are smoothed out now, but I have to offer that creative types like our friend VTW are subject to stream of consciousness postings. Kind of like word associates. You say Pork and he thinks of knives, you say rats and he thinks of knives he sees "SS" and thinks of a group of folks who got on a bad page in history, then his mind jumps one step further and wonders, hey I wonder if a guy is a racist do I have to do business with him. I don't think anywhere in there (as he has said) did he think you were as such. I get in trouble with that line of "logical" jump myself sometimes. I am sure VTW hasn't got any problem with you. Apologies and explanations have been made, now let's drink! :D

VTW: Back to your question... At first I'd say "Hell ya"! If you know for sure. But then perhaps that should be somehow made known up front. I'd exclude child predators for sure. And the list goes on. I'm not sure how this could be done in a practical manner though. Perhaps call him (hypothetical him) on it at the start. Before the deal is sealed. MHO!

Well, I think there are a lot of knife makers who are racist. I mean, look at how many do not use Cobalt as one of their steels proprietary ingredients. Really, Cobalt is good. Cobalt has been in Jerry's stuff, Cobalt has been in Sal Glessers stuff. But oh, yah, all those S30V guys, they have no use for Cobalt, they just kick Cobalt to the curb, they are such bigots.. :thumbdn:

If Cobalt is good enough for INFI, then, the it should be good enough for you. :thumbup:

Once you've had Cobalt you'll ask for some Porkbalt.

I think sales on this forum are a bit old-school, in that the buyer and seller are relying a lot on trust. Plus, we're generally dealing in knives, which can have less than innocent purposes. Under the circumstances, I think you have slightly greater latitude to refuse sale. Maybe the buyer has a low post number, bad feedback, or just rubs you the wrong way.

That said, including things like "first I'll take it gets it" sort of binds you to that rule. I'd personally have a high barrier to go back on the sale - evidence that the law is being broken (customs fees, local knife laws, whatever), no communication, or someone who was a royal a-hole/troll.

So I'd probably sell to someone with a racist handle, unless he had a record of highly inflammatory posts on the forums.


SS1945 - cool reason behind the name. You'll find good guys here, but occasionally feathers get ruffled by a misunderstanding. None of this INFI stuff is any good, though. Lots of good knives in the other forums, though. ( :D Did I scare him off? Yay, more INFI for me!!!!)
 
I'd like to suggest that "SS" include his name in his sig at the bottom of his posts. Might keep this type of doubt from coming up in the future.

This is only a suggestion, and I do appoligize for reviving a thread after it had passed on.
