I'm relatively new to knives, and I've heard great things about busse. Is a busse knife a good investment? I'm basically looking for a knife to use and abuse. What is the difference between busse, swamprat, and scrapyard? Which should I buy from? Which knives would you recommend? I'm looking for a large knife. Do they come with sheaths? Also, how is the Rodent ruki?
Thanks,
Bennett

I'm also interested in Ontario and kabar, but busse seems to be the better choice. My budget is $500-600

I'm also a newbie regarding Busse but other members have directed me to their site, bussecombat.com, and I ordered the special forces battle grade and the mean street; I just checked and they're still available at this moment; I also ordered a rodent 6 from swamprat the rest of your questions I have to defer to more knowledgeable members, I think they are a good investment for what is worth, I have never owned or handled one before:). Good luck.

I'd get the combo they have on special right now, if you order a SFNO and a AMSBG you get 40 bucks off of the AMSBG, a killer deal in my opinion. I have a email from them I can forward you if you like but I don't think is necessary, just place the order for both and they will apply the discount, they said.

Or look in the exchange, with your budget you might be able to score something with INFI steel, which I have read it is the bomb, at any rate good luck. Let me know if you get one, I'm curious what you end up with:)

Welcome, they're legit. Yes. Users save money buying user Bussekin. Name and/or steel and/or handle material and pricing structure ~ high/middle/low. Which ever brand has the model you like best. Any/all it's a personal quest w/o more info... define 'large knife' and intended usage ie hiking, hunting, back yard, truck, camping, yardwork etc. ;) Not usually but sometimes on the exchange. It's a sweet little short sword that chops ok when necessary.

Maybe consider something with a res-c handle for first user. :)

Someone is selling a 1311 in the knife exchange for $250. Does anyone know anything about this knife? Is this a good deal?

Very fair price and my favorite res-c handled big knife user. Top of above pic is my spare, this is my tractor knife 1311.

Looking for an all around camping/ yard work knife, as a forest is constantly trying to take over my yard, and machetes don't do crap. Also, I just want a knife to play with

The best way to get a Busse is always from the company store when the knives are available there. They hold their value even when used, and often appreciate in value. You should have no problem getting you money back if you change your mind on a knife.

The SFNO Battle Grade that's on Busse Combat right now is an amazing deal. The SFNO is in my opinion one of the best Busses ever made. The Battle Grade is in SR-101 steel instead of infi, but it gives a great introduction to Busses at a lot less cost than INFI steel. There isn't that much difference in performance, up to a certain (extreme) limit. SR-101 will rust a little easier if that's an issue. INFI is practically stainless.

Busse does not supply sheaths but the SFNO will fit in a large Spec-Ops combat master sheath, available from many suppliers. Mine did anyway.

ETA: Just be aware that the SFNO is apparently very close to selling out at the store.

Definitely should try a 1311 then, I live in the woods and use mine everywhere on 10 acres of trees & brush. :) There are prettier options, but none more efficient in cost/weight/performance. ;)

What is a basic 13?

It does not exist yet.

I have several 1311's and one is a user. It is a great blade since it is fairly light and has reach. The closest thing Busse makes to a machete. But it is still 3/16" thick which is thicker than a machete. Due to it's high saber grind it is quite thin in blade profile.

Good choice on a great score, you won't regret scoring your first Bussekin from a veteran Hog like Cobalt! :) The 1311 is great first taste of SR101!

What a way to buy your first Busse kin. Congrats BennettS. Class act Cobalt. What a great bunch of guys on this forum.
