I take back my earlier statement. This thing is freaking awesome. I was splitting 10 logs with this, no problem. I love the extra reach. Thank you so much Cobalt! One thing I did notice is that the coating smooths away when I baton is this normal?

yes it is. It happens to all the coatings.

Since the 1311 is nearly identical in oal to a 14" Tramontina, I tend to think of it more as a dedicated heavy machete/short sword/chopper than even a "big knife." I might pick up an 1111 or B11 at some point, but I'm quite happy with the weight, balance, etc... of the 13.

It's silly b/c I've never had either, but I think of it as a crazy hybrid of an ESEE Lite Machete and a Junglas that was adopted by Scrap Yard Dogs

I think I should cancel my jmd order. Though I really like it, I will most likely forget about it, and not have the money for it when it arrives. If it were payed right away, I would have no issues with it. However, I have no way of knowing if I have the money in five or so months. I'll just wait for something to pop up on the exchange instead. How can I cancel my jmd order?

You could probably email a request to pay for it now rather than cancel. I have done it several times in the past for the same reason as I don't use credit cards and surprise debits can be problematic. The JMD will complement your 1311 perfectly and will cost you more on the exchange later.

Funny, I have that tramontina as well. The short thin machetes are almost to light to be effective. A machete is best when the blade is at east 18" long or longer.

That's an interesting perspective. I have some larger machetes, but use the 14" the most. I'm sure it helps that mine has a convexed edge and is stoopid sharp, but I've been very impressed by what it can do.

Another factor is that I don't do machete work super often, so I notice more wrist fatigue with longer blades.

Yeah, the 1311 is a great blade. Just strip the coating; I strip all my users.
