Want to buy my first knife (under$50)...please give me your expert advice.

Are you looking for a fixed blade or folder? What are your intended uses for it? You could look at a Mora for a fixed blade and a Spyderco Tenacious for an excellent budget folder but more information would help folks give you better advice.

I will make a whole lot of assumptions -

You want a good every day carry knife, a locking knife with a pocket clip.

You want USA made, and quality from a company with a rock solid reputation.

Kershaw Skyline - $35 all day long.

best

Lightning OTF, double action. $43 bladehq.com . automatic.

spyderco tenacious- $35, superb fit and finish. folder knife.

kershaw knockout- $60, great blade size, so thin that the large size will not be in the way inside the pocket. folder knife.

if i could go back in time and get a first around $50 edc it would be the kershaw knockout. the large size and thinness sold me because it won't interfere with pocket use.

I'm looking for a folder. Thanks for the options.

I'd say get maybe another $10 together and get a Spyderco Delica 4.FFG (full flat grind)
Great EDC and a wicked slicer. It was my first entry into higher-end knives and was my main knife for a long time. Performed flawlessly.

What is your intended use? Here are a few inexpensive but lovable options IMO:

Big, sturdy folder? Ontario RAT-1
Light, non-assisted flipper with style? Kershaw Skyline
Fixed? Mora Companion
Mixed use machete? Svord Kiwi Machete

Kershaw Blur blem from kershawguy! Or a Knockout blem if he has any left. Deep carry clips are just awesome.

Alot of people on here say, that they wish they started with the more expensive knives right away. So if you know you like knives and want to buy more of them, or even start a collection, you might want to consider saving up another 50 to 100 bucks.

Tons of options. I just bought a SOG Seal Pup, a Spyderco Byrd Crow, and a Kershaw Vapor, and all those were about $44 combined.

CRKT M16 or M21 lines. They are great users that last forever, and are easy to maintain. Get yourself a Mora too. Everyone with knives should own one. Very inexpensive and better than most knives 10x more expensive.

Can't beat the Skyline for the money.

Also go over to Kershawguy.com and check out the Blur Blems for ~$40, that is the best deal and most knife you'll find under $50.

Agreed. This was my thinking when I got started.
Cheers

For me I needed a knife for my pocket, for everyday use and I didn't have one so I bought a cheaper knife to start with so I'd have one to carry. Then I splurged on a few ZTs later on.
