Wanted: 1/4'' thick edc knife. Suggestions?

what are u edcing it for? camping? prybar? 1/4 is moster thick. and if ur set on that then a bk2

I'm also wondering what you'll be using it for, what size you consider appropriate for an EDC knife, and so forth. But without knowing anything else about that, I'd suggest checking out some of Strider's fixed blades, many of which use 1/4" stock.

Boker has a few fixed blade models that will work for you like the pry-mate and elegance bob. Also voxknives (which designed those two bokers).

If this is a 1/4" thick blade on a folder, I don't see the point. The lock or pivot will fail before a thinner-than-1/4" blade will fail.

If this is for a small fixed blade, you might look at something like a Becker or something from Tops.

Extreme Ratio Fulcrum II folder.

1/4" thick blade or handle? Folding or fixed? Zombie slayer or fingernail cleaner? Boat anchor or pocket companion?

I want something i can take from work (shipping & receiving) to a campsite and not worry about breaking it. Folder would be more appropriate. 5" blade length maximum. Thanks for everything so far!

Just out of curiosity, do you have any knives (whether folding or fixed) with 1/4" stock? If not, I think you may be underestimating just how incredibly thick that is, especially on a folder. With the exception of the Extrema Ratio Fulcrum II mentioned above, even the thickest-bladed folders out there (Strider SMF/AR/GB, Three Sisters Forge Beast, WDZ and various other customs, etc.) have blade stock that's less than .200" thick.

The reason is exactly as knarfeng described above:

Ya i have an O-1 hunting fixed blade knife that i made for a friend. The only thing ive really seen is that e.r knife and the mantis mt9c knife. I just need something hd for work. I broke the tip off my kershaw leek the other day. And so thats when the hunt began!

I have a SOG Tomcat II, and it's made from 1/4" stock. Thickness aside, the pivot is the weakest point, and most of the blade is not 1/4" thick due to it's grind.
If you don't want to break the knife, get a fixed blade. Then it's going to be sort of heavy, but that's all relative.
Ontario makes some full flat grind blades from 1/4" thick stock, and the blade is tall, so it gets kinda thin, IMHO. If you want a thick knife look at the ESEE5, Becker BK-2, the TOPS Pry knife, or their small pry knife that's 3/8" thick. TOPS also has a new knife called Lil' Roughneck, it's 3/8" thick, but you won't break a 3/8" thick knife, or cut much with it either.

1/4" thick blade with a 6"+ handle? Maybe a custom from someone like Andrew Demko would be in order.

Yeah, if the OP really does want those specs he's likely going to have to go custom. In addition to Demko, he might check out Farid, who has made (and continues to make) some really big/thick titanium framelocks.

um...you do know the Leek has a REALLY thin blade, a way thin tip, and is optimized for slicing? It's almost a gent's knife

I think that there are many knives that would do just fine with your usage without having 1/4" thick blades. A Benchmade 710 in D2 would be about right. Heck of a lot cheaper than a custom and very very robust.

Kershaw Leek is more along the line of a gentleman's folder, that's why it has such a pointy and delicate tip. Just because you break the tip of a Leek doesn't mean you need a folder with 1/4" thick blade. It sounds like you're over-correcting by a bit here.

If money is no object, why don't you try one of the bigger Zero Tolerance folders (like 0300 series) and see if you can break it? If that doesn't work, you can always get a custom made.

^^This.

Deciding that because you broke the tip on your Leek you need a folder with a 1/4" thick blade would be like deciding that because your moped doesn't have enough cargo space you need an 18-wheeler. :p
