Wanted: 6" aluminum wheel for surface grinder

So Don That is a E hardness wheel? I use the 32A 46 grit wheels for most of my grinding But i dont think that mine have the gvb letters on them. Are you grinding hard or soft? I am going to assume that you are grinding soft but an E hardness wheel is pretty soft too.

Bill, I'm not sure what hardness it is but I'm sure it's not an E. Maybe a G hardness. I'll have to look in the MSC catalog and see. I grind all my steel soft, before heat treating but sometimes, I'll grind slipjoint blades and springs after HT.

Thanks Don. I have been leaving a couple of thou on my parts and taking it that off after hadening just in case I get a little warpage. I like to take about two tenths at a time and on my finish pass let the wheel spark out. I grind both with and without coolant, I can get a little more aggressive when using coolant but the finish looks about the same when finishing.

John, tenth is slang for thousandth, I'm pretty sure.

Bill it is a G hardness, MSC part # 05934013, $34.83. A machinist told me to get induced porosity, this is the one I went with and they have worked very well. The seeded gel looks good but cost twice as much. If you get on MSC's email list, you will get discount codes every few days, usually 30-40% off.

A lot of machinists speak in "tenths" and are referring to tenths of a thousandth.

So what Bill is saying with two tenths is 0.0002"

I'm not Bill but I did stay at a Holiday Inn before. ;)

Thanks Nick , I figured it was the literal part of my brain thinking , yeah I know there I go thinking , working without proper tools again :)
