Wanting a tough folder (thinking emerson)

ZT 0200 or 0300. I would go with the 0200. it is the strongest knife i have ever seen, it locks up solid, and it uses a hex bolt for a pivot. what is not to love? the blade is easy to resharpen, it looks nice, and it is just built tougher than any other other folder i have seen.

My thoughts exactly. My 0200 is the toughest folder I've owned.

All super tough knives below... I give all these the merit badges for dealing with me just fine..
Spyderco
Para Mili-compression lock
Military- liner or frame lock
Superleaf-compression lock
Manix 2- ball lock
Kershaw ZT
Tyrade Liner or Framelock
0200 Liner
0300 Frame
0350 Liner
0500 Hawk Lock
Benchmade
Anything with an axis lock. Prefer a Ritter Grip..
Emerson
CQC10 was pretty good with both a wave and opening hole-liner lock held up well, no failures

The Gayle Bradley from Spyderco... It's definatly my favorite hard use knife. It has premium m4 steel that holds an for a very long time, its got carbon fiber handles with skeletonized liners and a beefy linerlock... All for under just $150

Zero Tolerance is my recommendation. They're tough as all hell.

From my experience I put total trust in my Emerson CQC10 and my ZT 0200, 301 comes in a very close second!

Look at the Spyderco Gayle Bradley and Manix 2, Al Mar SERE, and ZT 0200, 055x, 0350.

There are a lot of great folders out there that should fit your needs. That being said I love my A-100 and can't seem to leave it out of pocket very long. Always carry a slip joint too. Maybe an Esee Izula or Izula 2 is what you need as well. Tough and small enough to fit in your pocket if you don't like neck carry like me.

The pivot screw on that Entrek is tiny looking, looks just like one of the slab hold-down screws.

If you want a reliable utility knife for abuse take a look at the Pocket bushman, has a Ram lock it's way tuff I ordered one last night.

Hmmm I wouldn't think entrek would make a weak knife but I'm still on the fence. Does anybody own one of the folders?

Agreed! It's probably good to go with conventional wisdom because of the combined experience of all the knife nuts here.

It's also probably not going to happen that somebody is going to luck out and "discover" a knife that has not much rep among the knife afi community, as a better product than what conventional wisdom says.

A picture will also not be a good indicator of how a knife performs.

Great!
I knew I shouldn't read this thread.
Now I'm Jonesin' for a ZT 0550/1.
What's the diff between the 0550 and 0551?
And where can I get one?:D

I'm not 100% sure but I think there is a video on youtube of the pocket bushman failing? I think maybe it was one if Nutnfancy's videos.

They have different patterns on the G-10. The 0551 has Elmax steel and the 0550 has S35VN. Both of them are backordered right now, but you can preorder from a bunch of sites.

Yeh there was a bad batch of springs, now corrected and the knives are operating flawlessly. Cold steel repaired all the broken ones that got sent back to them for free. ;)

EDIT: what seems to have happened is the knife itself had to be re-designed because the curve inside was itself breaking the springs -
-the newer ones have ss handles / older ones have al handles but i'm not sure if that delineates the faulty design from the updated design.
you can also replace the necessary for closing lanyard with a split ring [key ring].

thanks guys:) i'm still not really feelin the liner lock (haven't ruled it out though) i have several older cold steel's which i really like and trust a lot, so i think i might give the tri-ad lock a try,i really like the looks of the ak-47. how about the sog trident's? how are they holding up?

No doubt in my mind that the Tri-ad lock knows no equal in strength.

Been edc'ing my G-10 Ak for about two weeks now and love it:thumbup: The lock is awesome and the thumb plate allows the knife to be deployed just like an Emerson.
