Wanting a tough folder (thinking emerson)

They have different patterns on the G-10. The 0551 has Elmax steel and the 0550 has S35VN. Both of them are backordered right now, but you can preorder from a bunch of sites.

Another small detail, no one owns a 0550 because they do not exist quite yet. Back order is one way to say it I guess. Hard to say what the final product will look like as we have not seen any finalized pics yet.

This is pretty much along the same line as a similar post asking about a good tactical folder so I'm just gonna repeat my answer for him here:

Emersons are solid knives but my personal preferences tend to lie with Kershaw and ZT - I think the ZT0200 is a badass blade at 4". The 0350 is also nice, but it's blade is .75" shorter and .035" thinner. I had my share of liner locks so I thought I'd splurge for one of their frames which is probably way over your budget and I thought it'd be over mine too. But after scouring the secondhand market for a month or so I came across a 0301 on a different forum for $130:thumbup: ... and then a few weeks ago I noticed on went on here for $90:thumbup::thumbup:.

Ooh, and how about that new 0550? Loving that ZT line...

Quality on the ZT line is first rate, but the length to width ratio of their blades is all wrong to me. If you're going to make a balde that wide then the least you can do is have the decency to put a Spyderhole in it!

A hole would make it easier to wave mod too.

i'm trying to pick out my next edc folder, i want something tough for hard use (and some abuse) i'm thinking emerson (horseman mini cqc 15 etc) but i'm not sure about the liner locks. how does the emerson locks hold up? every time i hear liner lock i think about the cheap folders that will fold when you tap the spine with the back of you hand:o also i really like the look of the sog trident tanto, how does the lock on them hold up?

my budget is $150 preferably a little less, so feel free to recommend something else:)

I've had two Emersons. I like the designs and will likely buy another, but I didn't trust the locks. In each case, the bar travelled further over than in my other knives and seemed more springy/less secure.

For a "hard use" folder, the Kershaw Tyrade ($100) is a good choice if you can fine one, so is the ZT 200 ($130) and ZT 300 series ($180). The larger Cold Steel Spartan and Rajah models are a good value for something to beat up ($65). The Buck TOPS folder is really robust for about $100. The Spyderco Superleaf ($130) is one of their stouter offerings, and the Spyderco Resilence is tough and a steel for $45.

Thanks Tsujigiri.
What are the benefits/drawbacks of those 2 steels?

I just watched a youtube review of the spyderco superleaf and am convinced it is one tough knife. The blade is thick as hell, a beefy handle and of course the awesome compression lock.

emerson is fantastic too, I hope to get one in the future.

Look at the ZT 0200. Toughest folder I've ever owned. Batoned it through oak.
