Wanting good folder for 180 dollars?

The PM2 is the best all around edc for me. The Cold Steel American Lawman is a very close second. Look at the prices of these two.
The Military with cts 204 steel is a great choice, but a little bigger than some people need. If a knife that big appeals to you, the Cold Steel Recon 1 should be considered. What a sleeper of a great knife at a bargain price. The Griptilian with cpm 20 sv steel should also be looked at. For me, near the ocean, stainless steel is a much better choice for a work knife.

How about a manix 2 or domino?

I can't speak to the Domino, but I'll second the Manix 2. Great suggestion!

OP, if you like the look of the Manix 2, do also check out the just-released back lock version. Less jimping, no liners, thicker G10, thicker blade stock (and of course back lock instead of CBBL).

The manix took me by surprise, I had tried the pm2 and about a dozen other spidies. Just a great all around pocket knife. It begs to be used, fun to fiddle with, and depending on your taste, it's a nice looking knife.

Since you prefer liner lock over frame lock, and a smaller blade - check out the Southern Grind Spider Monkey. They pop up within your budget on the exchange, in like new condition, reasonably often.

Obviously, mine is copper - the regular version is carbon fiber, and I've seen a few in g10.

If you want a flipper, there's the ZT0808 (frame lock) or ZT0770 (liner lock).
I think I've got a picture with them together.

The aluminum handled version of the 0770, pictured, would also save you a chunk of money - leaving you better positioned for tote next purchase

In your first post you say you want a knife in s30v but then go on to say you don't care if it is carbon or stainless. S30v is a stainless powder steel and so does not come in carbon.

The reason I bring it up is because it seems to me you are fairly new with steels and probably thus do not have alot of experience sharpening. I recommend something in 154cm or maybe VG10 which are wonderful steels in their own rights but I think will be much better for you to learn some sharpening skills on.

Otherwise what are you going to do when the knife goes dull? Another recommendation is to get a cheap knife and practice away on that.

When it gets dull he will sharpen it. It isn't that daunting to become proficient sharpening S30v.

You can occasionally find a plain Sebenza for around $220 used. That's $40 more than your $180 budget, but in my mind, you're getting something that blows away anything else anywhere near that price range.

Honestly I'm sharpening a chip outnof my sebbie 21 s35vn and its taking me all night with my sharpmaker rods.

As a couple of posters have already pointed out, it's hard to ignore the Zero Tolerance Rexford 0804, especially since its discounted price has now fallen to $195 or less. It's not every day that a $280 knife drops more than $80 from one week to the next. The fact that it comes with CTS-204P (or CPM 20CV in the latest production run) blade steel merits your attention too, as either steel is an alloy equivalent to the highly regarded Bohler-Uddeholm M390.

I actually enjoy sharpening, and am pretty decent at it. Co-workers actually send knives home with me from time to time to have them sharpened. Lapedog seems to have misread my first post.

Sorry I assumed becaise you didn't know that s30v was strictly anstainless steel that you didn't have experience with it.

That said just know it can be a pain in the butt to sharpen freehand. It's taking me all night to get one tiny chip out of my small s35vn 21.

I'm not trying to argue, I'm only trying to clarify, I said "S30V or above" and I said the blade steel I'm looking for could be "Carbon or Stainless". I was referring to steels like CPM M4 or other non-stainless steel that fall into the super steel category. Yes I'm fully aware that S30V is a stainless steel, I have probably owned close to a dozen blades in this steel. Actually another member pointed this out on the first page.

ZT 801ti. A classier redesigned 0801. Good alternative to the 0562 if you want something with a completely titanium handle. I been carrying one for awhile now

Honestly the 801 is such a great knife. I think it is one of the best ZTs. I have the first edition one and it is probably the best flipper of all my zts. I also like how it's all titanium. The stainless liner on many ZTs bothers me.

The Gayle Bradleys are amazing knives. I love my GB1. If you can cop a GB for 180 that would be a no brainer.

titanium handles you say? You can get a techno or sage 2 both with Ti scales. THe spydiechef is 200 and has ti scales. Or start looking at Kizer knives they have lots of great stuff under that 200 mark with premium materials and great build quality.
Personally my favorite EDC is a spyderco dragonfly salt Serrated. I also love the endura wave. If you don't own or have tried either I would say get both as they would be under your $180 budget.

That Endura wave though if you're manly enough for FRN though.

Honestly the Endura wave is what I consider one of the best edc knives on the market.
