FWIW and in case you missed it, I edited at the request of the posters...that included taking the references used in replies.

This is why I hate the task of being a Mod...

I have already been taken to task by one user. He says that I abuse my technical permissions. Anyone else want to fire me? I'm ready to get any gripes out in the open...but be aware that that allows my truthful replies. Maybe a big blast of honesty would be a good thing...maybe not.
 
You have my respect but not always my agreement. As I've written you privately, there is something discouraging and conversation killing about edits and cautions at the slightest indication of heat.

I suggest this is a matter for the open forum. Not me. I'm not sure I care anymore, nor am I the best person to 'champion' freedom of the press.

No one who has not been a mod can appreciate the opposing pulls of BF managment, and the forumites themselves- who are divided about what they want.

If the forum wants HI lite, that's fine with me. The regulars leaving testifies to both the fun, kidding atmosphere disapearing along with the heart to heart.

Without the freedom to take a chance, relax, and speak from the heart, we have a hunting, fishing, khuk collecting and have you seen my last stereo- recipe-cast iron skillet forum.

It really is not Nasty vs anyone: it is what the forumites want. Further, what has happened in this forum is not the result of any one of us, not mod, not BF forum, not anyone, but all of us.

I miss the activity here, and I miss Bruise and Sarge too. I don't want our servicemen getting in trouble over the Cantina. John has a lady who wants to keep in touch with him as much as we do.

Nasty, we're pals, and I don't know that this is your fault at all. I remember people complaining about the last mods, and I thought they were good too. I think this edit was clearly appropriate. Its a little tight around here for my tastes, but then I'm kinda loose.

I used to like talking politics here, I know those are PITA threads for you, but this was a good place to do that. Now we get interference from outside when those are around, and you don't like em either, so they've gone away.

I also liked reading the reviews here. We had a lot of those, and they were good ones. No more. Again, I don't think that was on you, but its a difference people are dealing with.

I certainly overstepped my bounds today. Its your job here, Nasty. I wanted to lock this thread immediately today. I'm a mod too, and I'dda done it in a heartbeat at 6:30 am this morning were it me. Don't like it. Don't. Modding is a tough thing, and there is no right choices, no black and white.
 
It is not about Nasty. Nasty gets complaints and acts. If those wanting safety outweigh those wanting more freedom of expression, then that is the forum you get.

It is also not about me. I thought the edits to protect people excellent.

That father who got killed did the right thing. maybe several other lives were saved. maybe the thugs got caught, and put away for a while.

Doesn't matter about outcomes though. he did the right thing.

I don't know much about mods and stuff. I glad Nasty took care of what needed to be done.

Nasty, I'm glad you are willing to do this, because I sure can't.

Don't worry what people think, or even ask for. Do what you think is right, within the boundaries of your authority.

The tyranny of the majority can be brutal, fickle, and averse to its own best interest.

I think I understand where NV was going with his posts and believe he is looking out for Spectres interests. Al Gores innnernets are a real amazing thing and allow a wealth of information at your fingertips.
I think NV is just pointing out that those finger tips are working hard at internet cafes in Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad etc..Google is not always your friend.
I have NO doubt Spectre knows the postcards he sends are read, as well as the ones received. Everyones just trying to watch each others six, and that's a good thing.

Stay safe out there and keep fighting the good fight.
 
Count me in as one who appreciates what Nasty does for us.....I currently have neither the time or the inclination to track all the threads in the interest of civil discourse. Thanks, Nasty.....I'm glad someone does.

Brother John, Thanks for your service... I too fought for my country, but couldn't possibly do those things today. God Bless.
 
Let me say this:

If I've trespassed upon Nasty's territory I apologize. There is something to be said for Ex presidents, and ex mods, to keep quiet and let the other guy do his job. Our styles are not the same, and that's fine, and I do not wish to impose my personality here.

I'm one of the few who do understand the conflicting pressures a mod is under. He gets it from all sides.
I was glad to see Josh post today, because he'd indictated to me he was weary and felt he could not speak his mind any longer on this forum.

Nasty has to adhere to BF forum, Yangdu HI needs, the conservative forumites and the liberal forumites, and all those in between.
I've re-read Bill's affirmation of rules for the forum and believe it is as true and worth listening to today as it was in 2004.

OH- almost forgot: I resigned my modship, so I should hold my peace on a lot of stuff. But I also want to have my single voice. To have that, people need to understand and believe that YANGDU does what she believes is right, and does not agree with me on many things. I'm just another voice in her basket. I can howl all day and it won't change her mind if she believes one thing and I another. And the same goes for Nasty: when I asked him to be my co-mod I knew our styles were different but also knew we'd balance out well- the soft touch, and the hammer. You get to figure out who had the ball peen hammer. But Nasty does not listen to me like an automan, he doens't jump anymore than Yangdu when I tell him my opinion. That was true when I was a mod and is true now as a civilian.

I'm just another voice to both of them, and should be to the forum too. I don't have any 'influence', other than intrinsic.
So let me have my single voice too.
