Two turkeys, two deer, two days, one knife.

Alas! A pic lol

Nice! I've used folders in similar regards in the past, not a big deal at all to clean. In fact, when I hunt, I usually have a 4" fixed and some back-up folder in the pocket ;) cool pic!

P_Meticulous: Nice hog, nice knife. What did you brother use to get it?

Thanks! Always fun, especially when someone from the group gets something!

He was using my Rem. model 700 .300 win mag, with a Harris bipod. Great rifle ;) The knife also performed very well, its pretty much my outdoors beater now.

Nice! My uncle uses one of those when he goes hunting. He bagged an elk with it last fall, and sent us some of the meat. And yeah, if you can butcher a wild hog with it, it's a pretty good indicator of the knife's quality. I don't know much about hog hunting, but I know they have though hide and thick muscle.

P.S. Elks are good eating.

I carry a Buck Bravo for work, and kill at least one rat a week with it, never thought anyone would like a picture of it, but I guess I have a mission now!

I'm on the wait list for a random draw for CA elk  haven't had the pleasure to get one myself, but I have tried the meat - beyond good!

The rifle is a classic, and battle proven since Vietnam, I've never had a malfunction or issue :)

Regarding boar, if your knife can get through the rough hide, it won't fail you anywhere else.

Oh, you're in CA? My condolences to your palette, hope you get one soon! That random draw thing is BS, I can't imagine if it was like that for my fishing license*.

And yeah, it is. My uncle chose it BECAUSE of that reason. He figures if it worked in a humid, dirty jungle, it should work anywhere else. So far, he's never had it fail him once.

*I fish, but I don't hunt. Mind I would like to, but I'm a rather sickly young man, and getting up at 6 AM just don't work out well.

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. I would love to help dress out a hog to learn how.

I have cleaned and skinned deer, and helped butcher an elk, but the Hog is one I have not had a chance to do.

You didn’t see that I lived in CA? - “The-Land-of-the-Not-So-Free” LOL ;):) Both my brother & I applied for the draw, so if one of us gets it - we’ll be able to both go. Otherwise we still have great hunting (if you are apart of a private club, I’ve hunted public :barf: , and that’s a whole other story in itself..), deer, boar, black-bear, and turkey.

BTW, fishing relaxes me more than anything on this planet, nothing wrong or inadequate about it. I love it. I went two weeks ago, and I’ll be going again soon (I’ll take some pics) The best part is gutting with your favorite knife, and relaxing with fam & cold one.

Darn right. Really tasty stuff!

Congrats to you guys on that nice free-range pork, Meticulous. :D Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks!! You guys can post any pics you want BTW, doesn’t have to be hunting/fishing only. Anything, its a user thread.

Thanks! There’s nothing like it once you do it, and everyone should try at some point in their life. The only real difference is the tough hide, and weight! Freakin’ dragging it out of some canyon can take forever even with three guys. Thank god for winches ;) For the boar pictured in this thread, we ended up across a lake from our car, had to use a boat by the shore, and paddle across to save time.. There were no roads across the lake where we were, and it was a hot day, flies already started attacking...

Some more pics from that trip

I've got a Winchester Model 70 .300 Win Mag. That thing will tear a man's arm off even when he's wearing a super thick winter coat! To say the recoil is stout is like saying falling off a tall building would be less than ideal. :)

haha yup, .300 will knock anything down -fast. I'll switch to .280 Rem. depending on the game. I've found .308 to be a little too weak for boar but perfect for deer.

I have this same gun, it does kick, but my Remington model 700 30-06 kicks harder. I have the mountain rifle version so it's really short and super light!

Pictures of knives being put to good use on a knifeforum, instead of artsy fartsy pics of brand new knives only being taken out of the safe for the purpose of taking a pic - absurd!!

:D

The .300 doesnt have heavy recoil IMO.
.308 is just fine and dandy for hogs IMO.

Speaking of hogs; you dont need a rifle for taking down a hog - here is my Lon Humphrey being put to good use

Afraid the only graphic images I have I've posted before, but why not again. :p Just small critters, haven't been doing much big game hunting lately.
